I mean. C’mon! Memphis under WSW: 4-6” expected. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. Here I am stuck in the middle (with all y’all). How do we NOT get the NW nudge when we need it, but only get it when we don’t. Mother Nature is cruel and wicked. Honest, scientific answer is probably the Ozark Plateau. - I knew the answer, I just wanted to complain. At my gym this week one of the trainers asked me why we get hosed as much as we do. I said it was the Ozark plateau. I also added added a touch of the urban heat island

Honest, scientific answer is probably the Ozark Plateau. If you look at a historical tornado track map there is always a lull in tracks in central MO. Have to think that’s the influence of the ozark terrain. Part of that is probably lack people around for observation. But, I think it is also very real. We’ve seen many supercells over the years go across the MO and AR Ozark plateau dropping a small tornado here and there, but then when they drop off of it they are finally able To wrap up and sustain. For example the Feb 2017 Perryville tornado and many more outbreaks in eastern Arkansas, SEMO, W. KY, etc. I watched that Perryville supercell have broad and intermittent rotation across the whole state. Once it dropped off of it into Eastern Perry County it went nuts, and quickly. As Chris is well aware of.

Was a bit slick coming back from Swansea Schnucks, IL. North Belt, Frank Scott Parkway and subdivision all snow covered with higher traffic areas having some black ice. Not much traction. People taking it easy and driving 10-15 under the limit for the most part.

Any clues what's going to happen with Tomorrow or Monday's systems? Most models say nothing, but a couple tease us with Sunday and the RGEM/EURO/GEM give us a decent shot especially Monday. Nothing heavy, but similar or a little more amped up then this evening's event.

Interesting reports from south St Louis County of 2+ snowfall tonight... when everyone else is in the 1/4 to maybe 1/2 inch. A closer look at radar would seem to indicate there was a very narrow band of enhanced snow that traces back to the Missouri River where the surface flow was running parallel with a long stretch of the River. I'm spitballing here, but I bet that band was enhanced by the Missouri River.

Chris, I was driving through that band. At 270 and Gravois - it was coming down really really hard. The flakes were pretty big, and it was snowing hard. I know it’s not safe, but I pulled out the radar and I saw the enhance blue band as I was driving through it. It definitely was the strongest snow I’ve seen in a while.

I sounded Taps for a military honors funeral at noon today and I'm just starting to feel warm again!

141 & 44 1” of fluff is generous I’d say .5-.75” is the realistic total. That being said, it was a great mood snow! Wish we had more but it is what it is.

-9* in Brighton this morning.
Was checking the yearly lows on the station and since 2014 we've gone below zero 9 out of 10 years. These severe arctic outbreaks seem to be getting more common.

I can remember several discussions on here about ideal conditions required to get below zero. Then, when it happened it was kind of the same reaction as a 6”+ snowfall. But, now it does seem like any time a lobe of the PV decides to grace us with its presence, our ability to go below zero has become much easier. Used to be, gotta have 2” of snowpack at least, light winds, heck, even the moon phase mattered. Now though, we do it with 15mph winds and bare ground.
