Have to wonder why the 00z NAMs last night came in so dry? What data was/was not initialized properly? It looked like they initialized dry from the start. Maybe they were seeing too much low level dry air? Odd it would affect the NAMs and not any other models that I noticed.

Eerily quiet outside. Usually you can hear the rumble of traffic on Tesson or near the hospital from my house. When the wind blows a certain way, you can hear 270. It’s silent. And my street is a solid sheet of ice, even though it was treated the night before. Nobody is getting into this subdivision.

Where the hell did this ice come from? I was not warned of this happening.

Trees were glazed here earlier this morning but have since have less on them. The last shower that came through here must have had warmer drops because it didn’t freeze to the other glazed ice on the deck and puddled instead. Also just noticed the ice getting that white look to it in the lawn which is showing a sign of the binding releasing now. Temp & DP at 30° here

Took the dog out. Driveway and elevated surfaces are very icy of course. Even the grass is icy and slick. Looks like the sides on the roads or where heavier precip knocked off chemicals and then it refroze is an issue. Out WNW, I-70 and other roads are a mess! The warmer raindrops and the urban heat island helped for less problems on the big roads in the immediate STL metro (even more so near and in the city).

Woke up to quite a bit of ice on the driveway and deck. BBQ has the tell-tale indications of a toddler's 'runny nose'.🤧 or 'icicles' if you prefer. Temp 30* 7 miles west of De Soto. But, this heavier batch of rain really seems to be melting the stuff up cuz it mostly looks liquid. Well, I take that back, as I'm looking at the barbecue the 'icicles' are growing some.. The protected area of the back concrete walkway is a sheet of ice that you can see there's liquid on top as the raindrops are hitting it but it definitely has the wavy look of at least a .063" layer of ice.
Edit: The wife said when she let the dog out he took off and promptly slipped/slid on his belly across the walkway. He avoided it on his return to the house.🤔🤔

I am at the airport. All flights to and from STL are cancelled at least through 1pm. Good to know. Some of the airlines are being more optimistic than that, but it looks like Southwest cancelled most everything through at least midday.

31F in Edwardsville. 12Z NAM Hires wants to keep us icy in Madison county all the way up until about 5pm tonight, whereas HRRR has the changeover occurring for almost the entire metro around 11am-Noon. Will be interesting to see how persistent the cold surface layer is on the east side of the river. One thing they definitely both show is persistent precipitation this afternoon and overnight as the precipitation shield builds off to the southwest - no shortage of moisture - with over an inch of rain tonight into tomorrow.

I am up to 31 in Chesterfield. I tend to believe the faster warm-up personally. The warm drops are powerful warmers. There is enough ice on the ground it may take an hour or two to melt it all even after temps warm above freezing. It will not be "flipping the switch" and suddenly ice is gone. There will need to be some melting.

Super light rain right now. The heavier stuff has moved off. Still 30° and an even thicker layer of ice has coated everything with longer icicles. 7 miles west of De Soto. 😳🥶🥶

Have reached 32 at my house. Ice is melting from the eaves and the hood of my truck. My boss canceled our shift today, so I got to stay in. Coffee and relaxation for me this morning as the rain falls outside. From the looks of things I've seen posted, I'm glad I was able to stay home. I've gotta venture out on some errands this afternoon, but it's improving by the minute now.
