Chris's Corner - Bitter Cold and Some Snow

Walked outside driveway and sidewalk are just absolutely horribly slick. The key is to walk on the grass and in the rocks. I'm not going to bother with salt because of the short-term of it. Still sitting at 30° 7 miles west of DeSoto. No rain at the moment, but I did notice the top of the barbecue is completely clear of any ice. Solar insolation at its best. I'm seeing drops of water roll off the deck railing so the sun's doing its part there too and on the tin roof over the screened back porch, Water is dripping off it but still have some pretty decent icicles hanging there.

Doggo found out real fast the deck and stairs had ice. One fast trip down and she has learned how to navigate it. I was called by the doctor's office this morning, and she said none of them made it in and they will call back tomorrow when they have their computers. Lol. I got to sleep in, so that was a win-win.

Fantastic forecast Chris in a very complicated situation.

32F in Edwardsville... starting to see a lot of melting occurring, managed to skate out to the car to throw something in the trunk and when i -gently- closed the trunk all the ice busted off of it so no longer sticking.

Temp up to 31* in Brighton and the ice is starting to loose it's bond to the pavement.

This is a good example of why you really can't trust model outputs in these types of situations...most of the FRAM forecasts were significantly overcooked

Seems that untreated surfaces are starting to thaw.

Warmest cold rain I've ever experienced

37 here. Just about everything is melted.

But still better than qpf based ice products. That's why there is still a need for human forecasters!

35⁰ for the last couple of hours. North facing driveway and sidewalk are still ice covered. Street is looking pretty clear; mostly dry.

Still sitting at 33 here. The The snow on the gravel drive didn't thaw out before the freezing rain came, so it is a sheet of ice. Walking through the yard is slushy snowy ice. But it is north facing. Deck has thawed. Dad about 5 minutes from me has some small trees in front yard that broke from the heavy ice.

Still a touch below freezing in Brighton and there seems to be more ice in the trees than earlier. The temp rise seems to have stalled a bit here.

You are starting to probably see heavier precip. There's more heavier banding coming your way. You may end up being one of the winners for this ice system lol. I would think that you will rise above 32* in the next hour or two.
