Water conservation in affect for Saint Clair county, IL due to levee break at the Choteau Island intake facility. All Saint Clair County residents are to refrain from dish washer/washing machine and lawn watering use until farther notice while repairs are under way. Madison county customers are not affected. I dunno, people badly need to water their lawns right now

so besides this small-ish batch coming through early, does the rest of today look mostly dry? curious because I have some work going on at the house late this afternoon and it can't be a wash-out day for it to happen.

we for sure need several weeks of mostly-dry (not enough to kill off the young grass from shallow drying out of the soil, just no every-3rd-day all day drenchings -maybe like 1 good rain every 7-10 days for a couple hours with lots of sunny dry times in between).

its to the point of being outright stupid. The ground just can't hold it anymore. I haven't heard/seen this many people talking about basement leaks in years, the hydrostatic pressure is just overwhelming even sump pump homes.

this constant heavy rain has become kinda heartbreaking. After 9 years of never having water problems, just as we've poured several thousand into fixing up our house to be able to sell (and move into a bigger one that fits our larger family), we have seepage problems at two different spots in the basement (where the wall and floor meet). I'm just kinda lost mentally over this junk. And no, I don't have like $15,000 to excavate my yard to fix it, so please don't suggest it

honestly, if what WSC describes is even a few hours early, that still affects the early Wednesday morning rush enough, it'll still be cold and affecting roads. I'm already telling people around here to expect a decent chance of some school and other cancellations yet again on Wednesday morning.

exurbs are a "last 25-ish years" idea in social science, as older suburban patterns change, but its the first time I've seen that in a weather forecast discussion, ha

Happy 25th!! The "history guy who remembers every date possible" had one minor correction to your Facebook post: you guys switched to the Fox affiliation in 1995, not '96, because it coincided with the Rams moving to STL in '95 and Fox network getting the NFL contract for the first time (which Channel 2 played up big-time).

safety/lawsuits are a distant second. I've had it confirmed by a couple of people at a much higher pay grade than my own that its very much about the expected attendance numbers. Under modern rules and guidelines from the state, even a single day of horrid attendance can be catastrophic. Something, something, "unintended consequences of government actions".

I long for the 1980s. We just went. Period. in the 1980s, politicians hadn't enforced ridiculous mandatory attendance policies on districts in the name of "school accountability." Google the 90/90 requirement for MSIP 5 in Missouri, there's your answer. Plus, they'll still go the same number of days when it gets put on the backend.

GFS FTW! Perryville jackpot haha. Shows a foot lollipop at 10:1. Won't happen but good to see the potential. is it still keeping the immediate metro out of the main part of it?

With absolutely no scientific basis, I just have a hunch from reading all of this, and the trends, that I'll end up with a rain-to-a-dusting situation here in Hazelwood. Just doesn't feel like "our" storm right around here. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I have zero excitement over this one.

that sounds like its a "not much to see here" storm for the immediate 270 loop in Missouri if those are the 2 max areas.

WorldSeries, you live in Chicago now and you can't find a better blog up there in the big and "better" Windy City than Chris' STL blog? I think maybe a bill for at least $20/month should cover it, yes? Unless we start seeing trends swing in your favor of course. That way we can have some money in the jar for that lucky jackpot winner (for whatever that might be) with the money collected. It becomes $40/month if you decide to fair weather us here and become a cubbies fan too! You would actually be shocked about how amazing this forum is compared to the rest of the stuff available. This is a juggernaut. I know some are just joking, but if it really upsets people I'll see myself out. P.S. Got my Goldschmidt Jersey for my birthday, so I ride the subway in style. no way, after 12 years, you're not getting out that easily!

its definitely going to be very bizarre if we get a big Friday/early Saturday wallop, then have school off anyway until Tuesday morning, and have back-to-back major winter storms in 2 weeks with zero full days off of school. Plenty of schools cancelled a full day, today. this is true, I was just talking about my personal district (and most inside the immediate metro), compared to when there are area-wide call-offs.

I wish it was more of a Thursday/Friday scenario. Id like to burn up a full snow day, especially Friday! its definitely going to be very bizarre if we get a big Friday/early Saturday wallop, then have school off anyway until Tuesday morning, and have back-to-back major winter storms in 2 weeks with zero full days off of school.

all of the sudden in 10 hours its going to be Tuesday, looking at a potential late Friday storm. This is about the time last week when you guys started getting more and more confident in your thoughts for this past weekend's storm.

I could even do a Feb. 1st, 2011 storm again. I think others within the metro would highly disagree though..lol the 4 or 5 inches of sleet shut our district down for almost a week, I'll take the vacation again, lol

so are we buying the deformation zone actually (a) developing and (b) hitting the metro? I'm perfectly happy with what we have being "it", but another several inches would move into epic-territory

so with it kinda pivoting to the SW, are we going to actually see some redevelopment in the metro in the next few hours? the radar kinda fell apart.
