at about 4.5 or 4.75, with pouring moderate snow. Hopefully get another good hour of this, could get near 5.5 or 6 if I get under a good downpour. In Hazelwood about a mile 270 and McDonnell.

nevermind, it looks like the radar now wants to swing a heavier sustained batch into the immediate metro.

Wednesday evening looks pretty wet, IMO. You have to love the pattern that is developing so far this cool season... *insert sad face*

"very wet Wednesday night" is about the most depressing weather-related thing I could've read on here this morning. Boo. LATE wednesday night. ohhhhhhh, NOW you have me intrigued! I had just about written-off the firepit and trick 'r treating with the boys from the bits and pieces of forecast news I had heard. Are you thinking we squeeze in some dry time?

Mild is not necessarily bad. We have to remember that some good...REALLY good winters have occurred with above normal not below temperatures. As for the upcoming forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday. I am siding with more of a Euro solution vs GFS for the ejection of the upper level energy from the southwest. The GFS QPF doesn't even agree with the track of its upper level shortwave...which appears to be too sheared out. I favor a more well formed Euro-like solution...and much more precip back into the colder air. That leads to a cloudy and very wet Wednesday night into Friday as the energy lifts northeast and the upper level divergence increases ahead of the shortwave...followed by deformation zone rain behind. It would be a beautiful snow system...if only! "very wet Wednesday night" is about the most depressing weather-related thing I could've read on here this morning. Boo.

Dave thinks that the rain will clear on Wednesday in time for the trick r treaters. Fingers crossed, we've had some wet Halloweens over the last decade it seems.

Dave just shared a forecast map showing a still-organized Michael making it potentially to southern Ireland?? Is that normal for one of these storms?

it looks like there's more coming up from the southwest into the metro area from the latest look at the radar

Have your wheel well picked out yet?? Still narrowing it down. I think it's more of an in the moment decision. If we ever did a Morethanweather fantasy sports league, I call dibs on the team name "Chicago Wheel Wells"

It may not become a major hurricane or anything like that, but it at some point will interact with the big front coming through next week which will likely lead to some hefty rains for someone. as long as you keep telling me that the big front is coming through next week still, I'll take it, dry or rain.

For those that aren't on Facebook Dave Murray posted this map of current snow cover. He pointed out that its' about 45 days early. He was referencing the 46-day-out 2nd snow forecast map, not saying that the current cover is 45 days early, just as a clarification (though it may be about that early, I have no idea)

should we still be expecting more widespread rain in the immediate metro today? or just a slight chance of some pop-up stuff?

It’s amusing seeing so many people complain about the heat and humidity anymore.......when 99% of them don’t work out in it every day all day long. I’m not just referring to the group either. Every where I go someone is complaining about it. I honestly don’t think the last week has been all that bad but I’m use to it I suppose. just speaking for myself, our school building is a 1966 dinosaur brick-pizza oven with no central air in the main hallways, so we wait every year for the big cool-down from summer to make hall duty, walking around, etc, a little more bearable (the worst is our supply room, which is on the 2nd floor and has no air or ventilation). Its more of a nuisance dealing with that while having to be in "casual dress" clothes. I'll also say, the 90's and humidity on weekend afternoons has made the start of little-guys soccer a drain, it might be the biggest reason I want this crud gone.

maybe the next week or so will be warm and boring, but tomorrow is September 1st, which means that its time for the annual guess of "when is the first fall cool/cold front* coming through?" This goes out to Chris and anyone else *I'm calling anything with a high of 70-72 or below and lows of 50s or below a true fall cool/cold front, FYI

These are some mean looking clouds. Greenish tint to them and swirling around in all directions I'm at the Target parking lot on Lindbergh in Florissant, and I just watched a cloud go JUST to my south and east that sure look like it was wanting to rotate and go low...

if Chris would have to end his involvement in the site, we would have to find a way to keep it alive, including raising the funds to do so if needed. it's been 12 years, it can't go now.

the good news is that July would need to go full-on 1930's or '50's for awhile for us to even think about true drought around here right now. My backyard is a hot, swampy mud pit. At least its an excuse to still not mow the lawn out in this muck.

the good news, no matter what happens next week, is that so far, as of June 22nd, we're not even in the same universe as 2012. I cut the grass yesterday, almost a week after Fathers Day, and it's 73 and rainy today. those were pipe dreams at this point in 2012 (I cut the grass a week or so before Fathers Day, and didn't again until early September that year).
