Wpc is showing a 2 to 4 inch rain over the week. So at least rain is coming.

At least glad tomorrow and Sat are rainfree for the funeral- our bro in law and best man had been fighting lung cancer for 2 years and was 73! Can't believe all this rain we are getting. Maybe it'll help the fall color!

Nws was expecting widespread 1 to 2 inch amounts this weekend. Now chances are 30 and 40%. They keep dropping. Reminds me of last winter This pattern looks like something straight out of winter. If I took the timestamps off this you would think its from the middle of winter instead of late summer
We're not too far off from seeing a Memphis low and even some deformation zone precipitation. Christmas in July?

Yeah... TV doesn't do it justice.
I'm not sold on how widespread the rain will get Monday and Tuesday...and if the upper low will really stall out or not. I'm playing it conservative with the rain...but hitting clouds with "some showers" and cool temps hard.

Euro has been consistent in closing it off around here... GFS is catching up. It should be some interesting weather early next week.
Fog looks like it may be a problem... Spirit and Washington Airport down to a 1/4 mile

Interesting radar view this morning about 630 AM. Wish I knew how to save a radar loop. Speculation on what the "eyebrow" looking things are? Birds? Insects? On the motion they appeared in small circles about 10-15 minutes before this image. There was another one near Carbondale.

On the motion they appeared in small circles about 10-15 minutes before this image. There was another one near Carbondale. Birds. On radar these are sometimes referred to as "roost rings". The rings started to show up around 5:45am. It's fairly common to see these around sunrise with birds leaving their nesting area and fanning out in all directions.

Nice 'hole' in Summer next several days with much of the country really heating up, but the midwest remaining in a cool pocket with at or near 'hoodie weather' conditions through Wednesday before Summer makes an epic comeback by late week or following weekend with a solid stretch of 90s returning CFS 786 hour model hints that another cool period comes after that lasting till almost Labor Day. Also seems like we've got a shot at a heavy snow this upcoming Winter if you believe the whole fog in the Summer thing.
Anyone know what's the big smoke stack visible from the Metro east that makes a big dark cloud of smoke is? Our power plant/incinerator? Anyway was out around and once I hit the rural areas around Scott AFB and New Baden it was easily visible and looked almost like a tornado/cone shape giving the illusion of a smoke vortex/tornado.

Sad to hear the duck boat entered the water at 6:55pm...long after the warning was issued. Watch was issued at 11:20am with the following wording:
"Widespread damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible"

Here's a summary of some of the more notable parts of the onboard recording timeline as presented by the NTSB and reported by the FOX affiliate in Springfield: 6:28 - Boat unoccupied. Operators told to take water portion of tour first. 6:29 - Passengers loading. Captain comments about looking at weather radar. 6:55 - Boat enters water. 7:00 - Winds pick up and white caps form on lake. 7:00 - Captain lowers side curtain windows. 7:04 - Bilge alarm goes off. 7:07 - Bilge alarm goes off again. 7:08 - Recording ends prior to boat sinking.

What makes this even more disturbing is that they were told to do the water portion first....in theory that was to avoid the storms when in fact it sent them to their deaths. Had they done the tour in the right order...they would have been on the streets when the storm hit and likely would never have reached the water to begin with. So crazy. So sad.

Looks like the trend of the St. Louis split with precip chances the next few days is on with very little precip along I-70/I-64 and more north and south of the area. QPF amounts have also decreased significantly over the pass couple of runs in general even in the 'heavier' zones. This could bust hard one way or another as in not be a thing at all just a few passing showers and clouds at best to a solid low developing with widespread precipitation along it's path. Does seem that current trends favor the former solution or the least interesting one overall. Temps could also bust pretty hard as well with temps now likely too cool based on cloud and precip trends and would be more likely to stay in the low to mid 80s rather then the current 70s advertised.

What's the timing on rain/storms this weekend Chris? Thank u Little if any rain today...chances start ramping up this evening into tonight. Scattered pockets of rain...and some spot thunder...are on tap for Sunday. By no means are we looking at an all day rain. There will be several healthy dry intervals...but those are impossible to time or place.

got lucky here in tc subdivision....good steady light rain for much of the afternoon. enough to prevent yard work so im tinkering around with my shark vacuum. it quit working last week. the motor for the suction just would not turn on even though the brush motor runs. was hoping it was an electrical connection to the switch. never smellled any burning. trying to avoid taking to AAA vacuum.
