Just popped a few pixels of 214 mph in the western eye wall at an elevation of about 3.5k feet. Not sure I want to ask but what does that translate to at ground level? If it is over 80% I'm sorry I asked

Just popped a few pixels of 214 mph in the western eye wall at an elevation of about 3.5k feet. Not sure I want to ask but what does that translate to at ground level? I'd say it reduces down to about 165 to 185 mph.

12pm advisory from NHC has pressure at 919mb. I believe this will be the 3rd most intense hurricane by pressure to make landfall in the US.

Looks to reach CAT5 status by landfall...or at least "close enough". Incredible.

Looking like landfall will be somewhere near Tyndall AFB. Tyndall is reporting gusts up to 120mph.

I think the Air Force recon is trying to get another center pass. Not sure the SFMR is accurate in the shallower waters, but they may get some dropsondes before landfall.

What a beast this storm has become. I cant remember the last time a hurricane seemed to still strengthen as it was coming on shore like this. Wild stuff

Looks like recon had 152kts at flight level (the highest yet). With typical 10% reduction that would be in the 135kts range at the surface. There were some flagged SFMR measurements of around 135kts as well. My guess is Michael was right on the cusp of Cat 5.
