Sure looks like a melting layer showing up just north of STL near Troy. I assume nothing frozen is making it to the ground. I saw lots of snow/graupel mping reports in central Illinois today. A bit early to see snow flakes even up there.

Maybe someone else does but I don't remember ever seeing winter precip this close on Oct. 12th. Last year I had sleet mixed with the rain in Perryville on October 28th and that was even very unusual. Even crazier is that it was 90 degrees a few days ago.

Speaking of mping...is there a way to select and read anything on those indicators on the map or do is it just the observation?

Fox 2 showed some snow flurries in Pontiac, IL this afternoon and reported flurries in Peoria. My wife, in the process of driving to Madison, WI, reports seeing some flurries as well.

Speaking of mping...is there a way to select and read anything on those indicators on the map or do is it just the observation? You can read the reports on a PC from this web site mping.ou.edu/display/And I don't have my phone handy right at the moment but IIRC right below the "send report" button there's a "view reports" button for the Android app. Don't know about Apple

You can also submit mping reports in RadarScope as well.

Saw a hummingbird at the feeder today, she better be heading south! I read where they can fly 500 miles in a day and are solo migrators.

Anyone remember our first frost last year? I feel like it got kinda cool then got really warm in October. I seem to remember the vegetation being very thick yet on opening weekend of rifle season. Also a lot of crop fields had re sprouted. I think that was last fall.

Noted this afternoon that all my bird feeders are empty, I filled them Tuesday. That's the fastest they've been depleted this year. They know...

Is anyone else in here craving a decent snow so badly they can hardly stand it? It's been three/four very long years. It's gotta be a decent year. Says a lot for this forum though that it has survived and thrived without its bread and butter for so long.

I used to check !AccuNotWx! Forum for hurricane news, and when I went there from a bookmark was surprised that it is now defunct. Made the drive out to Bellevue yesterday, so happy to just go straight into a house and not a hotel! Surprised that not all of the trees are turned yet. Going to go out later today and get rakes, stuff for the house, and go drool over battery lawn mowers.

It was a bit chilly this morning on my deer stand. Kind of a nice change of pace! Been several years since that's happened this early in the season. I could do without the damp though. On another note, the Meramec is really backing up because of the Mississippi river. It's backed up through Times Beach and out of its banks at 55. I hope the Mississippi goes down soon. I got drawn for a special hunt the first weekend of November on Pelican Island north of the city, and the only way out there is by boat. I don't like the idea of getting out there on that river when it's low, and I definitely won't if it's still high.

the way that eye explodes leaves me speechless https://www.reddit.com/r/weather/comments/9nulx1/hurricane_michaels_development/ That’s cool to watch it go from thunderstorm cluster to thunderstorm cluster with rotation to eventually the beast it became. Right before landfall it looks like it went into overdrive. Don’t see to many hurricanes with closed eyewalls make landfall in the US.

We kept waiting for it and then wen you saw the pinhole eye with the extreme convection you knew it was on. Good thing it didn't have another 4-6 hours over water.

Southeastern Nebraska is getting as much as 5" of wet, heavy snow. Lots of trees still have leaves so they are having significant power outage problems

My relatives live in Lincoln and they are looking at about 5 inches. Tree branches are bent low. Looks like the neighborhood we're in has underground lines.
