Looking back in history... it seems the most prolific nearby snowfall on Halloween was the 1993 storm... where some of our southern Illinois counties saw quite a bit... 3=6 inches of snow fell that day/evening over southern Illinois.

Thank you for posting this. I've heard folks talk about the Halloween snow in the early 90's but have never been able to find the report. I wish we could get surprised but I know the best outcome tomorrow morning is a few flakes.

From the NWS:
The National Weather Service in St. Louis is excited to roll out two new products coming this winter. Information on each product is below:
Snow Squall Warnings You may remember these were discussed last year, but ultimately the date to begin those was pushed back to this season. So now, beginning this winter, we will issue Snow Squall Warnings if needed. Snow Squall Warnings will be very rare in our area, but folks should be aware of what these are if the need arises for us to issue one in our area. Please see the first two attachments for more information.
Impact-Based Flash Flood Warnings Beginning on November 4th, we will transition to impact-based Flash Flood Warnings. These new Impact-Based Flash Flood Warnings will change some of the text of the warning itself, allowing us to add tags like "Considerable" and "Catastrophic" to highlight particularly high-end flash flood events, similar to what we do for Tornado Warnings now. At some point in the future, the WEA system will only alert for these high end "Considerable" or "Catastrophic" flash flood cases, greatly limiting the amount of Flash Flood Warnings that are disseminated via WEA. Please see the third attachment for more information on these warning tags.

Melting layer is about 500 feet apparently. Cold rain is the worst.

I remember halloween 1993. My employer had an outdoor party for the families and it was cold. We got snow showers here but i believe columbia might have had some accums. It looks like the snow kind of diminished as it moved through stl then redeveloped again for our neighbors to the southeast.
Weatherfan nice pics. Are you the Outdoor Man bc that house sure resembles the house on Outdoor Man.
Statistically 1993 is close to what we are seeing. High rainfall. However the amount of snow that winter for us was quite low. Im not sure whether teleconnections match up though. It could very well be a different setup that provided the same sensible wx. I for one, do not believe our snow amount will be that low. Im thinking more along the lines of 20 inches.

GFS now also drags some snow showers through almost the entire area tomorrow morning. Snow showers look like a good bet tomorrow morning. I noticed the DGZ is dried out on some of the soundings around here so we might see snow pelts rather than flakes at times

To anyone that has an in ground sprinkler system and hasn’t blown it out yet, wrap a blanket around your back flow valve. Just fold in half and wrap it like a giant HoHo. Leave it until you get a chance to do it. I’ve been so busy that I forgot about mine til just now.

Ok folks. Need your opinion. I’m going to invest in a new weather station. Must obviously connect to the weather networks but it appears there’s a lot of newer competition compared to the old Davis screen. I’m looking in the $200-$400 range or whatever you all think it’s best. And...go.
