It is looking more likely that the no EF5 streak will be extended to 6 years. The longest streak on record was 7 years from 2000-2006.

It's looking more likely that the upper low will track just to our north and the associated deformation will swipe the northern counties bringing a solid chance for flakeage on Halloween. Accumulations will be tough to come by due to warm ground temps and timing during the daylight hours but I think it's likely that anyone along or north of 70 will see wind blown flakes.
NWS pulled snow probs for my zipcode which I found odd...

This current pattern is really encouraging heading into winter. If you put the GFS on loop it’s just shot after shot of cold air with system trying to spin up between intrusions

Euro swipes the northern 2/3rds of the area with the backside snow on Halloween. I think north of 70 has a legit shot of minor accumulations

That easterly fetch of wind coming off the lake won’t be your friend though The euro shows the effects nicely if you zoom in on Cook County lol. Can’t be mad in October though. Pumped that we should all see a very rare event. Long range is looking good based on some of Dr. Cohen’s recent posts.

I don’t know why maybe just something in the air but got a feeling we may see a little surprise in the area on Halloween.

I think north of 70 has a legit shot of minor accumulations GEM throws an interesting twist as it develops a strong impulse in the base of the mid-level trof which gets a small but focused deformation zone going right down I-70...that would support some minor accumulations.

US National Weather Service Springfield Missouri 1 hr ·
Periods of rain with isolated thunder is likely tonight through Wednesday afternoon. Then, with much colder air rushing in from the north, rain will transition to freezing drizzle and light snow Wednesday night. There could be light ice accumulation on elevated surfaces (tops of trees and bridge decks), especially in areas north of I-44. A dusting of snow will also be possible across central Missouri by early Thursday morning.

My wife just sent me a text that her famously inaccurate weather app says freezing rain on Halloween. Told her it’s garbage. But curios what model even is showing that? I checked and haven’t seen any signs that say Ice.

EPS has ~50% probs along I-70 for 1" of snowfall with about 90% probs for the northern counties. SREF also has a D-1" event north of I-70. So flakes seem like almost a lock at this point with minor accums possible for the north half of the CWA.

Whether theres drizzle at the same time the surface temp is < 32 is the big question. With the storm pulling away, its going to be pretty difficult to sustain lift for dendrites. Idk, fr dz is possible, but the impact should be minor and not like the recent years events.

The upper level system is pretty wound up with very cold temps aloft...there should be enough moisture in the wrap around for snow production and with 700mb temps dropping to -15*C dendritic growth is probable at times.

I have to say the last few days has been what everyone on this board dreams of. Im here in Denver and we’ve had two back to back storms come in and almost non stop snowfall. Other than the lull we had yesterday evening and night it’s been pretty much non stop snowfall which is incredible even for Denver standards. The first storm dumped right around 5”-6” and this current storm brought in another 8”-10” and still currently coming down. Sure feels like the middle of January here rather than the end of October. If DIA gets down to -2 for the low tomorrow night that will be the lowest temperature ever set in the month of October in Denver. There’s a strong shot with radiational cooling and a fresh snowpack.
