Well I just got a nice little wake up thunderstorm I didn't have thunder but I got two wake up calls about 6 AM. The first was fairly gentle; the second much harder. Each lasted less than 5 minutes

GFS and the other models were too progressive in the long range. This would be in our favor if the front in the winter can shift SE 150-200 mi haha. Happy Labor Day!

The Woodland Hills station in California (20 minute drive from Santa Monica) recorded 121F yesterday. It's the highest temperature recorded in Los Angeles County. That ridge out west is impressive for anytime of year nevermind in September. The previous record was 119F set in July.

Couple cool features on the Denver radar currently. You can see smoke plumes near Fort Collins as well as the front racing south across the Denver area

Yup cold front is thru Denver, let the temp drop begin! Denver also happen to tie another record today, made it to 73 days this summer of 90s and above.

Well the latest HRRR shows maybe an inch of snow downtown Denver now. Are the models finally catching up and realizing after 101 degrees the other day that it will be hard for snow to accumulate. Me thinks less snow given the time of year and just how warm it’s been.
Also temps tomorrow are just not that cold for snow to pile up IMO. With temps in the 30s that screams MELT to me. Now let’s say if they were in the upper 20s then I would say the potential is there for something more impactful. Nonetheless we will take the much needed moisture and the foothills still seem to get hammered from this.

It’s not a true snowstorm until the HRRR flips script right before the storm after showing huge amounts of snow for the last dozen runs

I don't expect Denver and the Urban Corridor to get much snow accumulation due to the hot weather leading up to it...ground temps are surely running well into the 70s if not higher and will take time to come down. It would have to snow or sleet extremely hard for hours to overwhelm that. The foothills and higher elevations above 6-8kft are a different story, though...this is likely going to be a historical storm in those areas.
I'm surprised by the inability of the front to penetrate through our area considering the strength of the ridge and anomalously cold air with it. But it is September, and with the upper level energy and cold core getting cut off near the divide, it makes sense synoptically. I still think this setup is very encouraging as we head into the cool months though...this upper pattern would be ripe for overrunning events.

Can confirm now at my location, near Centennial Airport that we have snow falling now. Just transitioned over in the last 10 minutes. What a change!
Currently 33 degrees at my location, we hit 93 for a high yesterday.
