Always nice to wake up to flakes flying. Good burst of snow currently

Things look more interesting as we head into the new month with a negative NAO and AO forecast to develop along with a positive PNA

It was nice to see a few burst of snow this morning. Now I want enough to cover the ground even more! Snow or mid 70s lol. I hate the dry cold.

I love that pretty light blue on radar! I’m ready for a actual snowstorm now!

As far as I can tell, there isn't any current EPO forecasts being produced any longer. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong...but my recent searches came up blank.

from the NOAA Physical Sciences Lab:
Note: As of 23 September 2020, the Global Ensemble Forecast System has been upgraded to a much-improved version 12, and this page for the older model version is now obsolete. We have also, regrettably, discontinued the production of many value-added experimental forecast products, including post-processed probabilistic forecast guidance, Extreme Forecast Indices, and GEFS-based teleconnection indices, due to lack of funding.

Weathermodels.com still has them. You have to have a membership with them to view them.

Weathermodels.com still has them. You have to have a membership with them to view them. That makes me feel good about the 10-15th timeframe for something to develop. Models definitely show energy coming through the NW flow around then.

Models 'decloaking' the system for mid/late week but it's mostly for Kansas, and Oklahoma. Still some models hint at some snow here as well but mostly light amounts.
Should get at least a partial sampling tonight and a full one tomorrow which could result in more dramatic shifts in the models, or at least the best potential to. As for if those changes benefit us or not remains unclear.

I'm not sure about decloaking but I think there is a chance of some light sleet/snow at the onset early Thurs morning with borderline temps. Other than that, we need a full scale pattern shift for anything meaningful. This east-based, cutoff pattern is no good.

Somewhere around the 12th-15th is probably our first legitimate shot at accumulating snow. Timing might workout nicely for Christmas this year. Last Christmas I was in shorts in Chicago and probably could have used sunscreen

Here's a question that's been going around: are snow days a thing of the past with the realities of virtual learning?

Here's a question that's been going around: are snow days a thing of the past with the realities of virtual learning? Not sure about the schools but my work pretty much said from now on since the option to work from home is there, they won’t let you “call out” for snow.

regarding nao and ao, that does bode well as we get into december for our first accumulating snow. i think by mid month, we can put one in the books. could technically come as early as this week if the gfs has its say. although any accums wld be on the light side.
somewhat doubtful that we wld sustain any cold pattern into christmas. my thinking rt now wld be a seasonably typical christmas...thinking dry during the day, maybe variably cloudy/partly sunny and a daytime max around 50 with temps falling off late in the day. nothing scientific abt it. thats a very typical holiday here, imo.

Also to add we are working from home until June 2021 or until a vaccine is available. We have 100 employees in our office so it’s almost impossible to distance. I’m ok with working from though. I like it.

The divergence in the modeling beyond 72hrs is laughable...no consistency with this chaotic flow.
Plenty of potential for flakes to fly again later this week if that cut-off tracks favorably...but temps are marginal.

Here in Parkway, we had three built into the calendar this year so they are going to honor those, but any beyond that will be virtual school days. I forsee the calendar down the road maybe cutting them out, time will tell.
