Jeez.. I didnt realize that storm had a wiki. Is there any radar or satellite loops available for that one? I can see it in my mind quite well but would like to revisit it if it was out there. What a powerhouse.

I’ll never forget that ice storm. We had no power for almost a week. Thank goodness we had a fireplace. At night it was so quiet until the slightest breeze then heard trees cracking and falling all around.

Jeez.. I didnt realize that storm had a wiki. Of course it has a wiki! It was THE storm that started getting a group of closeted weather geeks to be able to talk in public about who they are and what they love.

There sure wasn't much movement of that system in the 4 hour loop where it was snowing. What dreams are made of. I had just been laid off (normal, reduction of workforce). I remember driving home from Meremac Power Plant. I am glad it mostly held off until after I got home. I don't recall having too much trouble driving home.

That was such a great storm , there was a lot of sleet mixed in around St. Louis. It was a tough storm to plow . The roads were so bad for like a week. It was like driving on a cobblestone highway 70 . With the snow /sleet/ freezing rain and deep cold it was rough. Modot finally took road graders and scraped the high ways around St. Louis one lane at a time . Truck plows were basically not cutting it. I tore up one plow and another trucks transmission during those few days. Probably the most equipment damage of one single storm in my 25 years of snow removal.

I'm pretty sure that was the one where SIUE didn't close. I ended up in the median between north and south bound 255 thanks to a jerk cutting me off. After a long time waiting for a tow truck I discovered that 157 was just wet. I went home. Then my professor wondered why he showed up but only the on campus students were there.

surprised the Star of Bethleham hasnt been talked abt. the lining up of two planets in the southwest sky...typically happens every 20 years or so. hopefully clear skies will prevail. abt 45 minutes after sunset on dec 21, jupiter and saturn will line up giving the appearance of the Christmas Star. exceptionally rare this year bc the two planets will appear closer together than usual, less than the diameter of the moon. i dont know if we wld notice any difference but lets hope for no rain or clouds.

Apparently this is the closest they've aligned since March of 1226! I'll look for the article

i hv no idea how spectacular it will be. hopefully will be fun to watch. gfs pretty active rt beforehand but thats just guesswork. however if its close, the cold front may clear things out for a crisp, clear view. if not we can view it in 2080, although some articles suggest it may be viewable for a few more nights in december.

In the last two days the models and tele connections have trended a lot worse if you want cold and snow. What looked like a good pattern developing around the 12th now is rain and normal temps.

I said a couple weeks ago, I wouldn't expect meaningful snow before the 15th. That is probably going to be extended to not before the 20th..or later. It won't be blow torchy probably, but near and above normal temps for a while. With any strong cyclones cutting to the nw.

While the big storm next weekend will likely cut NW, the models have at least trended back this morning to a more favorable orientation of the dome of cold in the long range. Hopefully that can stay...

While the big storm next weekend will likely cut NW, the models have at least trended back this morning to a more favorable orientation of the dome of cold in the long range. Hopefully that can stay... There are quite a few ensemble members well south or even suppressed compared to the operational gfs. 7-10 range is still fantasyland. Not much to read into either way just yet.
