Looks like storms are struggling to develop across MO...I would imagine mid-level temps are pretty toasty putting a lid on things for now. That'll do er

so if this heat is getting to you, and you don't have a pool, you can always take a peek at the CFS for August. Huge disclaimer here...strictly for entertainment purposes only.

so if this heat is getting to you, and you don't have a pool, you can always take a peek at the CFS for August. Huge disclaimer here...strictly for entertainment purposes only. It's been more or less consistent with a cooler second half of Summer but by no means done with the heat, that said chances of hitting 100 plus start going down climatologically around Mid-August. Nevertheless I think a fast start to Fall isn't that far out there based on the La Nina and periodical blocking we've had. Once the typhoons really get recurving off Japan, then we could get some early Hoodie Season fun. Looks like August will be a month of swings with some below normal temps to start, then warming to near average or a hair above with another strong trough around the 9-12th followed by another warm-up possibly a strong one/heat headline criteria then crash back down after the 22nd-24th into September. Let's see how it all plays out. Should be overall wetter as well for most but nothing extreme at least on a large scale. Looks to turn drier but colder heading to September and October with November looking like a toss-up between warmer or cooler than normal and average to below average precipitation.

For fun my August in a nutshell...
Aug 1st-4th, seasonably cool to mild, lower humidity, dry. Aug 5th-9th, warmer with storms around, think scattered, humid. Aug 10th-13th, Cooler and less humid, pleasant for mid-Summer. Aug 14th-20th, turning hotter and steamy isolated/scattered popcorn t-showers/storms. Aug 21st-24th, strong storms and humid, then turning cooler late. Aug 25th-31st, becoming seasonable and more humid, but nothing extreme, storms arriving late.
For Lambert Airport:-
Coolest High: 74*F Hottest High: 97*F
Coolest Low: 55*F Warmest Low: 78*F
Precip for the month: 3.75" (Near to slightly Above Normal)
Belleville:-
Coolest High: 72*F Hottest High: 95*F
Coolest Low: 51*F Warmest How: 75*F
Precipitation: 3.2" (Near Normal)

Pretty amazing light show here, and I know we were on the very western edge of that strong storm rolling to the south. More CG as it got more towards the end of the line. Several short gusts of wind, a little bit of rain and just the beauty of the lightning. When it was overhead, there were 2 very bright flashes in front of the window and then that thunder where you know it hit something. Hoping we can get a little steady light rain as it fills in.

Yep, there was one crack very close by that sounded like it ‘hit something’.

Some nice relief today with the E/NE wind, lower dewpoints and cooler temps. Hopefully that stretch was the dying gasp of summer but I suspect there's probably one more shot of heat next month after the first week or so.

I would think we would have some good heat and humidity well into September. As in temps in 95-100 range, dews in the low-mid 70s at least. Not constant of course but a couple days here and there. Sptember can be a pretty hot time, especially if tropical systems threaten the coast.

well, I think it's pretty certain we will see more heat advisory days. It's been a pleasant summer so far, but August into September and even into October can easily make a summer a beast. Big trends last few years have featured a more pronounced seasonal lag, especially wrt to summer. Maybe I'm less tolerant of September heat. I hope you're right.
