Copious amounts of rain thus morning! Rain started at 6:30, currently at 1.25" s 7:10! Mowed yesterday and will probably be mowing puddles tomorrow! Correction, now 1.35".

Not much dew this morning so I’m gonna go ahead and hop on the mower now. Takes about 6 hours to mow our property. Hopefully I’ll get interrupted by rain.

I have a question about the Davis vantage vue rain gauge. Mine seems to be recording less than conventional rain gauges. This morning I recorded 3.60" both neighbors have 4.1" in their tube gauges? If the Davis is off, is there something I can do to correct? The instrument is level. Thanks!

If it's like the Vantage Pro there are set screws underneath each end of the tipping bucket that you can adjust. If it's reading low, you'd want to raise each side a bit so it tips earlier.
Pretty amazing gradient across the area...I only recorded .44" this morning. The heavy band set up about 30-40mi further N than what most models showed. We certainly didn't need it.

Thanks for the input BRTN! Just checked the rain gauge at the elevator in town (3 miles east) and it had 3.7" ? So I'm not sure if my instrument is that far off?

I was watching the velocities as the storm was close (I’m about 5 miles W of Bonne Terre) & noticed what (in my limited knowledge of met.) looked like potential circulation. It had gotten really dark & still so I went outside to take a look. Too much tree cover here to see much unfortunately. Later I saw the news & I ain’t gonna lie, I was a little excited. I miss being able to see the sky these days.
