You might need to rent a high-end sports car if you're chasing in the upper Midwest tomorrow. Just your casual 85 kt (98mph) storm motion

An ol classmate posted a picture on FB today of a torn magazine? Post card? But interestingly, the address label was present for an address in Defiance MO. Her location is Carlinville IL, The page was blown up against her house! Not sure how far that is as a crow flies, but amazing how far light debris can be carried.

My son goes to college in indianola, IA and he called to tell me that there has been talk about the potential for a derecho tomorrow. That would be just insane, but I did read that most of the state is under a high wind warning for winds and gusts 60-70mph from 12p-12am. Crazy, crazy weather

Derecho? not really. Just a long day of very strong winds not caused by tstorms..here or there. There may be a fast thin line of storms that moves thru late tomorrow night, but not severe probably.

Glad to hear that, 99. A group of them are still going to hang back until Thursday, which does make this mama bear happy.

Flying out of DIA tomorrow at 10am is going to be interesting. Local Meteorologists here are saying parts of the front range could see wind gusts 100+ MPH tomorrow including the Boulder area. Wow!!

Looking longer range... the MJO is doing some crazy funcky things in the next week to 10 days and indicates some major upheaval in the global pattern. It goes from the cusp of phase 7 and crashes back into phase 6/neutral and then rockets out to phase 7 (cold phase) so the atmosphere is clearly struggling to achieve balance which is likely to lead to some crazy weather around the globe in the next couple of weeks. It also means the long range model guidance will be of little use.

Jeez... the 00z GFS MOS has pushed tomorrow's high to an insane 83! Even the 00z NAM has edged upwards to 70. If the overcast mixes out... two things will happen... it's going to heat up and shatter the record and secondly the winds will be crazy strong as the 50kt+ winds just off the deck will get mixed down. It is definitely going to be yet another crazy day in the wd month that is December 2021.

It does seem we way be on the cusp of a major pattern change soon.

Let the dog out at 0430 and it was what I call Creepy Warm. This is spring weather, not mid-December. All of the pavement was sweating. Hoping The higher wind gusts don't come until I get home at 1345.

So now the minds have changed on the derecho up north? I remember the Cedar Rapids one and the corn fields flattened!

Some locales in western/southwestern MN could potentially have severe thunderstorms, followed by snow a couple hours later.

Minneapolis disco from this morning is quite something to read. Crazy crazy stuff. That might take the cake for craziest AFD I’ve read. Tornadoes and high wind. But wait, there's more! Flash freeze. But wait there's more, we also have accumulating snow. But wait there's even more! There could be blizzard conditions if the rest of the apocalypse doesn't satisfy you! Mid December at its finest.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the SPC upgrades to a 15% tornado risk across parts of Iowa later. The 12z CAMs are showing a high end tornado environment evolving around there this evening.
