The 12z NAM continues to have a fairly strong signal for freezing drizzle on Saturday morning into early afternoon. I would say anytime 6am-2pm . These set ups are notorious for the cold air being slow to leave the area. The fact that it’s printing out qpf already with air and dew points below 32 along with frozen solid ground could be some icy roads and lots for sure if it develops. If it does develop , it will likely be a much bigger deal than the dusting of snow we all tracked for the last five days!

Paducah radar looks great with a solid shield of moderate to heavy snow
Nashville is now forecast to get 5-6”
This system really pulled itself together as soon as it cleared the area
Very cool

So we got 0.1” and now what, a trace maybe. That first inch is always the toughest. Hopefully we get there by march.

Boy even looking at the perryville webcam there is snow there, but maybe half inch to an inch of windblown snow, the dry air monster was huge with this storm.

I know the other day there was some talk of freezing drizzle on Saturday morning. None of the mets are mentioning it at this point. We are driving from Washington to Jefferson City for a swim meet early Saturday morning. Should I be concerned about the drive?

I’m watching the Thursday-Saturday period next week.
Potential phasing opportunity that could spin up something interesting.

Thats what I am thinking, anything that develops will have to make its own cold air, as the entire country is nearly at or above freezing

Crazy fetch of moisture/energy hitting the SW US next week for sure. One problem. The cold is nowhere even remotely close. I'd say our chances there are near zero.

Need to keep a close eye on how models handle the cold air at the surface Saturday as well NAM has been holding onto freezing temps in the metro longer and longer Saturday Models tend to scrub out arctic air to quick

The NAM has the freezing line around the metro area until almost 3pm . That with dew points at or below combined with frozen ground you could be dealing with issues for awhile on Saturday. Daylight will help some but anytime 6am-2pm I think it’s possible for sure. Believe it or not the NAM is usually one of the better models handling ing this type of set up. The gfs is usually always way to fast moving the cold air out. The RGEM does a decent job as well.

Good midday all... For all the effort put into that forecast.... I think it ended up turning out about as well as could be expected. The DAM definitely played a major role. Amounts were high in the mesoscale band along Missouri River... but snowfall rates were decent and placement was excellent. The more general "around 1 inch" for I-70 and south wasn't perfect... but honestly it wasn't bad either. Considering what we went through with wet models, dry models, shifting models, etc... I count it as a win from a forecast standpoint... but obviously not what a lot of folks wanted.
Freezing drizzle is the next winter concern for Saturday morning.... more on that tomorrow after I get some sleep!

Ended up around 1” here west of Perryville. Now the cold is settling in. Numerous reports of wrecks in the area. Thank you to those on this board. Definitely makes tracking winter weather an interesting and fun experience/hobby. Dragons and I are usually the 1st to mention weather at our respective schools and keep those in the loop that use the clown Facebook maps. To those that missed out, it’s not much but us southerners usually miss out more often than not .

The cold air isn’t going too far away. Maybe retreating up to around the I-74 corridor. Much better than where it was in December, which was at the Canadian border or north.
The orientation is good too IMO.
