At least the landscape companies can still make money for these non events. I know the company I used to work for loved it because they got paid regardless if the storm materialized

A couple short rounds of moderate freezing rain in the last hour. Untreated surfaces such as sidewalks and driveways are ice covered.

That map is off by about 3-4 inches in the Chicago area. Not sure how they get those numbers, but may need to just reduce by 33%-50% when reading them.

Tropical Tibits really is struggling with the model hours past 240+ hrs and more on the 12z GFS. I know this has been a problem. So I guess just just pivotalwx.
Otherwise who's ready for rain after temps were in the teens all day Thurs for highs, 5-7 yesterday morning, highs yesterday around 23-24, followed by temps in the upper teens just after midnight today lol. I know we've seen this setup before and I bet most on here including myself could do without the forecasted ice so it worked out for the better in the end. Though still it's pretty bad that all we've seen is flakes in Nov and a trace of snow just after the new year w/ flash freezing. This is the winter so far that just keeps on not giving haha! At least we've had some days that have been cold lol

Looks like the GFS won again, it’s 2-2 this week. NAMs /HRRR and Euro did terrible on this non event .

Anyone have a special hatred of people on Facebook that comment on everything thinking they are perfect and always 100% right!? Or am I just getting bitter? Lol Hard for me to go on there anymore. Don’t mean to sound hateful but gosh I can’t stand the public sometimes. :-) Kudos to you Chris, I feel like I would go off on some people.

GFS has been awful ……. We would have 40 inches of snow by now if it was half right lol ……..

GFS has been awful ……. We would have 40 inches of snow by now if it was half right lol …….. Calling a technicality on this one: 40 inches in “2 weeks out” snow. Thing has been showing storms and cold 14-16 days out all winter.

I feel the gfs has been perfect 3 to 4 days put. I personally dont care whats 2 weeks out. Most of what matters of there is ever a big storm coming 2 to 3 days is all the general public needs to prepare. So i. Short term GFS is perfect

I still feel like the NAM handled this setup the best. Was it perfect? No, but when is any model.
It was pretty consistent it showing the potential for fzdr when other models were not showing anything

The NAM was far superior with this storm, the last storm and the baby ice event last Saturday.
Last Saturday... GFS had a "SEVERE" ice storm forecast for STL metro for several days before finally caving to the NAM'S more northward placement.
Thursday.... the GFS indicated no snow for anyone... for days. STL proper was only grazed but the southern half of the viewing area was impacted with a minor to moderate impact system for several hours. The NAM was overbacked for sure...but it did a good job with the northern edge of the snowfall. Making the known corrections for juiced QPF bring it into line... much better than we could have done with tthe GFS alone.
Today... GFS said no precip until late today and it would be all rain. We had a sizeable portion of the area experience several hours of freezing drizzle. Impacts were never expected on roads... only untreated surfaces. NAM was too cold for too long but had an excellent handle on precip... GFS was dry. NAM wins today too.
I think these last three systems were better handled by the NAM regionally than the GFS. The NAM was far from perfect... but adjusting for bias was much more useful to accurately forecasting all three events for me.

Looking ahead, the next week looks about as boring as it can get for January but things should pick back up starting next weekend. Nothing that really jumps out yet but next weekend looks like a small chance for flakage. Doesn't look like any big warm ups or arctic outbreaks on the horizon, but I think the second half of January could be pretty cold

Yes this is a weather pattern that almost just crushes you mentally, to almost where you dont care anymore.
However Ill admit its very nice sitting on the porch this evening. Crazy how mild 44 feels after being in the deep freeze
