It really cannot be overstated how much the weather sucks here. I'm losing interest in this stuff very quickly. I’m right there with you ….. it truly seems as though it finds every way possible not to snow around here

Been losing interesting in weather for a while now. I still follow weather and modelling closely but I barely comment on anything anymore. Just not enough going on to draw my interest. With the exception of December, even severe weather has been down over the past 5-10 years and historically we've gotten a legit winter storm about every 1-2 years which now seems down to about every 2-4 years.

I find myself increasingly more interested in severe weather over winter weather. I imagine a large part of that being because 95% of the time winter here blows

The NAM was far superior with this storm, the last storm and the baby ice event last Saturday. Last Saturday... GFS had a "SEVERE" ice storm forecast for STL metro for several days before finally caving to the NAM'S more northward placement. Thursday.... the GFS indicated no snow for anyone... for days. STL proper was only grazed but the southern half of the viewing area was impacted with a minor to moderate impact system for several hours. The NAM was overbacked for sure...but it did a good job with the northern edge of the snowfall. Making the known corrections for juiced QPF bring it into line... much better than we could have done with tthe GFS alone. Today... GFS said no precip until late today and it would be all rain. We had a sizeable portion of the area experience several hours of freezing drizzle. Impacts were never expected on roads... only untreated surfaces. NAM was too cold for too long but had an excellent handle on precip... GFS was dry. NAM wins today too. I think these last three systems were better handled by the NAM regionally than the GFS. The NAM was far from perfect... but adjusting for bias was much more useful to accurately forecasting all three events for me. Agreed. Though you would of thought if we saw freezing drizzle, there was a sight chance of a little ice on some smaller less traveled roads if sleet kicked out at the start and chemicals washed away...we have seen that problem with temps around 19-23* I know. Despite not getting any ice in the metro, we can probably say that we didn't want ice so it's okay in the end haha.

That's almost amazing to have ice flow that quick after record warm December. I know its been cold up north, but still pretty impressive, I would not of though the waters would be supportive this far south for ice on our rivers

We got the freezing drizzle in Chicago last night and already have fallen twice walking the dog lol.
My back hurts and this is the lamest form of winter weather.

My thoughts on ice are not safe for a family board. Spoke to WI cousin last night who griped about wet snow clogging her snow blower. I commiserated, but stated that my only snow this season was a coating on the patio, and some in my mulch. Happened at night, so I have yet to see a flake fly here this season. I can take crappy winters, but non snow winters are sad.

Some interest showing up on 06z GFS, out a little ways. Man, what monster just off the east coast on 1/14. Right now only looks to get New England states. Seems like a strange set up from just a surface wave over Fla on the 13th.

Seems like a strange set up from just a surface wave over Fla on the 13th. Looks overcooked when comparing to the 12z ggem and Ukmet. I more interested in watching the models try to resolve the northern and southern stream energy over the Midwest heading into next weekend. They have been all over the place.

I'm sure the east coast will get something historic . And we will get rain next weekend. If we get anything.

12z euro dropping a ton of snow in Central Illinois Friday into Saturday .
STL just needs a small move southwest to be in it.

Almost hard to take the euro seriously anymore with how amped up it’s been in the medium range
I remember the good ol days when the euro was rock solid at this range
