I watered young trees in our front yard just in case. The color of oranges and yellow were popping this last weekend. Hoping the red oaks come out til the end of the month and we don’t get windy days too bad to strip them! Hope Chris takes a pile and shows Rosie how to jump in them!

We are getting closer to our favorite time of year. As evidence, I submit the 12z gem.
It has an incredible band of lake effect snow burying parts of Indiana next week.
In the process, we all get very cold for a couple of days relative to seasonal temperatures.

No moisture to work with the cold, lol

yep, we'll be on the western edge of the cold in that scenario. Nothing but clippers, and those will largely stay to the north and east. I do not have high hopes for this winter. Cold probably but a lot of fluctuations and not much moisture.

Nice little overperformer this morning on my drive to work. Had to text home and tell them to close windows.
Ive seen various winter outlooks...a tad early if you ask me. I discount things like almanacs and woolly worms, of course. But the ones that attempt science seem to vary between flooding rains and cold, but i havent seen anything mention a lot of snow here in the lower midwest. So how about alternating between periods of heavy potentially flooding rains, with periods of intense cold and dry. As for rainfall potential, seems heaviest precip events really like to hug the periphery of drought regions, and this kind of winter i describe seems to readily fit the la nina mode. A third year la nina has been cold for us in the past, but the rarity makes it hard to conclude. Thinking though that the cold will be intense when it happens.
I do think we really turn the corner on drought/exceptionally dry in november, with periods of prolonged and significant rains, so im not too concerned about dry here, as much as i am for the central and southern plains. That region has fallen out of favor with the rain gods and theres no real pattern change in sight for them. We may dry somewhat in december with a relaxed and relatively restful weather pattern before things turn wet again by january.
Some cold and moisture briefly matchup in february, but a quick return to spring seems more probable as well imo.

Bright sunshine 7 miles west of De Soto. I don't how much rain overnight. There has been very little so far today. I am hopeful the winter will not be this dry down this way.

The ground is dry here so it looks like this morning's rain missed me 7 miles west of De Soto. Looking back on radar it looks like some storms tried to develop over me. If it rained it was only a few drops.

So, I finally get to incorporate weather into my day job and I’m hoping somebody on here might have some resources related to natural disasters (especially hurricanes).
Basically, I’m trying to assess the relative impact of natural disasters on healthcare utilization during the event and in the immediate months to follow.
However, I’m struggling to find a way to categorize level of impact by geography (I.e zip code or county). Does anyone know of a data source that identifies or quantifies natural disaster impact (damage, deaths, injuries, etc) at a zip code or county level?
