Strong CAA will offset the poor radiative cooling conditions...a hard freeze is pretty much imminent tonight with dewpoints running in the 20s. I agree the CAA is very strong. Dewpoint was 16 at KSTL at 2:51 CDT. The whole area outside the city will endure a hard freeze by early tomorrow morning. I just hope KSTL can manage to get down to 30 at least. We've all seen this rodeo all too much at KSTL. This is too good of an airmass to not get below freezing at KSTL. NWS's point forecast afternoon update has KSTL only getting down to 31 tomorrow morning.

The Mississippi at St. Louis is going to hover around -3 feet this week. Missouri River releases slow dramatically in the coming months as the corps restricts flow over the winter.

Are we expecting some freezing fog or something overnight? There’s chemicals all over the road.

Good job for the folks saying lambert will only get to around freezing We have been below freezing since midnight in st.peters when I hit 31, and currently 27 so hard freeze for most, however 30 to 32 for the lambert to downtown area.
Now tonight as many have said will be when the bottom falls out. With the winds much calmer.
I can tell from this morning my plants completely now look like spinach.

Will it slide below 32 for a few minutes now? Either way not a hard freeze at Lambert so technically the growing season doesn't end. All the farms and crops aren't at Lambert last I checked. Sorry, I wanted to have some fun. 😂😂😂 Onto a more serious note: looks like most of the other areas outside the city dipped into 20s so a true freeze. Forecasts verified. Though maybe not a hard freeze. 26* is the point for that right? There's a certain amount of hours too where it needs to be below freezing? Edit: 28* or less is the point for a hard freeze.

What actually ends the growing season in terms of temps, I always based it if lambert hits 32 its over because its subfreezing everywhere else usually.
Now tonight will be the coldest night as winds will be lighter

www.weather.gov/iwx/fallfrostinfo"Hard Freeze Warning/Watch Hard Freeze Warnings are only issued from May 1-October 20th (can be extended if necessary). A hard freeze warning is issued when temperatures are expected to be 28 degrees or less. A Hard Freeze Watch may be issued a few days ahead of time if the potential exists for temperatures to fall into these thresholds. What to do: If a Hard Freeze Warning/Watch is issued for your area, there is little you can do to protect plants. If you can move your sensitive plants inside, do so because the freeze will kill them." - NWS I thought part of the criteria was that it needed to be below 28 for at least 2 hrs. Maybe I'm wrong?

Oh and sorry guys if my posts still take up too much room. I just condensed my winter snowfall totals so it should be a little better now. I still just use the mobile version on my iphone safari browser so I don't see my snowfall info when I post. I had to go into the desktop version to edit my personal information.

Several hours at or below 28* is a true killing freeze, IMO...not just hitting 28*. We had 3 hours of hovering around 28-29* this AM in Brighton.

It looks like some of the area may get some rain early next week. It looks like the amount will depend on what happens with invest 90E and how the potential cyclone Roslyn evolves. The GFS shows Roslyn priming the pump as a large amount of water vapor gets swept in front of the trough and into the higher latitudes. The ECMWF keeps Roslyn's moisture shunted to the south. The difference appears to be with how the GFS and ECMWF handle the interaction between the trough and the cutoff low west of Baja California. The GFS shows them phasing whereas the ECMWF misses the phase. It's a complex setup because 3 pieces of energy (the trough, the cutoff low, possible future Roslyn) are all interacting with each other.

I think things may be setting up well with the cold October, warm November, cold December. Would love to see some December snow again. Those are my favorite.
