Easy with the Winter Stuff? Don't look at the 18Z GFS... It's gangbusters on the 16-17th. Mega Snowstorm!

While funny it does add support for a cold period after about Thursday of next week into or just before Turkey Day. December however screams unseasonably warm. Looks like as usual MLK Day into St. Patrick's Day looks to be our core Winter, and it could be brutal at times.

If the gfs is right we will have a tropical storm/hurricane in Florida and a blizzard raging in the High Plains at the same time. Euro is similar. That would be uh, different.

Full night at 530pm. You know it comes every year but it’s still always a shock to the system.

GFS has the 5100 height line flirting with the area on the 18th-19th
This could be one impressively cold pattern shaping up mid-month

30s for highs in November, especially mid November... Jeez. Saturday and Sunday look down right cold for this time of the year, could have lows in the mid to upper teens outside of the metro area as well. It's been a while since we've seen this. 2013 ringing some bells...

SOI is absolutely tanking…
Some are saying it more resembles a strong El Niño compared to a La Niña.
Likely to see the southern jet ramp up. Hopefully, it connects with the cold air.

I had just checked it the other day and it had been strongly positive for about a month solid. Things might get crazy if the La Nina weakens rapidly this winter...

Looks like there's a decent chance of seeing some flakes next week with the cold airmass entrenched across the Midwest and some energy digging in...but moisture is pretty lacking with persistent ridging setting up this weekend that will tend to block any moisture return. Definitely a cold pattern setting up though.
