I must say I cant remember the last time I saw Alaska warm, as well as the entire lower 48 like that on the cpc outlook. For the next 6 to 14 days.
But in reality im not even rooting for snow, I am just rooting for liquid precip to help our drought, otherwise it's not going to be fun next year. The map the NWS posted earlier today showed a huge area 8 to 16 plus inches below normal in precip this year.

Warmth is all relative.
Like Chris mentioned, even though northern Canada is going to see way above normal temps, when your average is like 0°F even 30 degrees above average is cold enough for snow.

So who is getting ready for summer?

Sorry all, I do understand warmth is realative, I just meant departure above average. Like even here locally it is overall warmer than average but it is a typical december warmer than average, there is no torch its just very temperate with highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in The 20s and 30s. It still feels like winter just not extreme either way just more overall.
What is extreme is the dry conditions.

I can say I've never seen Rend Lake as low as it currently. For some reason, though, the Ohio River seems to be at normal levels--at least at Paducah. Don't really follow all of that to know why.

The record high at Fairbanks, Ak for today is 40 and the record low is -57. The record high at St. Louis for today is 72 and the record low is -5. Alaska is still gonna get snow, we ain't.

Even though winter wasn't great last year after Christmas... at least leading up to Christmas was fun with the arctic outbreak and tracking a snowstorm. I would take that again.
CFS shows colder after Christmas, but it is the CFS.

The amount of chaos in the pattern next week and beyond is mesmerizing. I don't think I have ever seen so many disjointed jet segments across north america. It is like someone dropped a handful of rocks into a pond and ripples are going everywhere.

I won't ask if that 'UPS' our chances of snow.😊 Does this end up being actual 'chaos' in the atmosphere, or you just referring to the model has no idea what's going to happen and the models' output is 'chaos'?

End of run but GFS and GEM are showing pattern change...let's hope. Probably a day or two late for Xmas but at least moisture and eventually Colder..MJO really peaks into phase 8 and 1 by then into New Year. Last time I checked (few days ago) so may have changed but also +PNA -NAO as well..keeping the winter dream alive!! Lol.

Yea, models have been showing that for the last 3 or 4 runs now. You'd think it would eventually have to change! It is out there a ways yet, but the evidence of the change is visible in the 8-9 day-ish range, so we might be on to something.

Keep the bean footage rolling through the winter... Jokes aside, looks like our weekend system might be interesting from a meteorological point of view. Looks like a solid phase with a subtropical storm from the gulf into the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic. Models have been edging it back a bit westward as well. So we might get rains to last into Sunday, especially on the Illinois side. Might get some decent rain from it. Like a half inch to an inch, perhaps more east and south of the Metro.

I know this is taboo this time of the year on here, but having 50's and sun isn't a bad thing this year for me. I've had a lot of work to get done over the past few weeks after our football season ended. Now after Christmas, I am all for winter dumping on us.
I've burned the least amount of wood to this point than I have in 13 years. We'll get ours at some point, maybe.
I jumped into teaching in 2016. I remember thinking, "man it will be nice to not have to make that snowy commute anymore." And I believe we had exactly one day off that year from a ice storm lol. Meanwhile, the winter of 2013/2014 I was still making the commute to O'fallon from down here. That was neat.
