Man, if I was an east coast snow weenie, I’d be awfully peeved right now. If the norther jet was involved like normal this would be a colossal snowstorm this weekend. It’s like the Superstorm of ‘93 track minus the energy and phase with the northern jet.

Notice any issues with cell phones, satellite or other radio type communications today? This is probably why!

Well friends, not much to talk about weather wise for the next couple weeks, looks like it’s going to be pretty warm and unexciting. Potentially an interesting setup for the SE CONUS going into the New Year, might be something to keep an eye on! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Really amazing how little is going on nationally weather-wise considering it's mid-December. Mostly oceanic type of stuff. Certainly nothing dramatic in terms of winter weather.

So who's staying up tonight tracking the rain coming in? LOL

At this point, Christmas looks quite rainy. Euro is particularly bullish on the rain and makes a longer duration event, whereas the GFS brings lighter amounts of rain and a quicker duration. No snow in sight.

So who's staying up tonight tracking the rain coming in? LOL I just checked the radar haha. I figure we should get all the rain we can get in Dec before it gets "cold" and dry later. It will be interesting to see if we can get any snow when we finally do see our first true Arctic airmass front of the winter.

0Z GFS giving us fantasy snow at the very end of its run, that's less boring than nothing at all.

Only have to look 342 hours out for our next disappointment 😂
This December is so pitiful we don’t even have false hope. Just absolutely nothing for basically the entire country.
MLK to Valentines Day is the new winter I guess.

The large-scale pattern that ensembles show towards the end of the month is absolutely ugly with very little cold air in North America. And the stratospheric pattern suggests that this could last well into January with the vortex on the other side of the pole with no signs of any warming.

Yeah, this month is basically a write off unless we can get a sneaky surprise event timed just right with a brief chilly shot. I guess that wasn't all too unexpected given the possibility that el nino would come into play, but as we all know not all el ninos are created equal. At least we can face up to the fact that the rest of this month is looking rather bleak and accept it now vs. last year where we had that brief but very sharp arctic blast then it flipped back to mild in January. That to me was quite disappointing as it seemed the pattern would change to colder/stormy in January 2023 a couple weeks before that pre christmas cold snap. Maybe we will be able to make up for this pattern later in January and February....one can only hope.

It's rained almost exactly 1 inch over here on the far east side. I knew we'd get rain obviously, but wasn't expecting quite that much. It might suck that it's rain in mid December, but needed moisture nonetheless.

.44 storm total in St.Peters. I will take it. Hopefully we get another inch or 2 before the month is up to keep replenishing the ground moisture and start eventually putting some runoff in to fill the ponds, rivers and lakes.

And the stratospheric pattern suggests that this could last well into January with the vortex on the other side of the pole with no signs of any warming. Saw Dr. Simon Lee post a Euro ensemble run on the 14th showing extremely weak PV heading into 2024. Some volatility should be expected, but have at least seen hints of something big happening. If it happened, would expect a 7-10 day burst of winter 27th-5th or so. Then, a 2 week mild stretch followed by our best shot at sustained winter starting around MLK day.

Losers & Winners I believe that map went until noon Saturday. I know the far east side definitely had much more rain after noon.
