We had a very light showers 7 miles west of DeSoto but I'm amazed that we were missed. Must have been a warm pocket of air right over DeSoto. 🤔🤔😊

Southeast Iowa and northeast MO have just been taking a beating. One storm after another up there for at least the last 24 hrs

Looks like the outflow from storms up north is trying to backbuild the firing line further S/SW. Could get down into the N counties at least.

That's been the beauty of this heatwave. While the humidity is off the chart with numerous spikes of 80 plus dew points at times, the temps are squashed from clouds and outflow.
We are only topping out low to mid 90s versus upper 90s to around 100.
Which is really just typical summer heat here.

And close to that the day before. Anything higher than a 72 DP or 105 HI in my opinion is not normal around here.

Heat is fine, humidity is the killer. I work outside for 8-10 hours during the summer. We’re in the absolute worst stretch of the year when it comes to weather. Went through three shirts yesterday. I despise this time of the year. Give me 10 degrees and my proper coat/clothes and I can work outside all day long. Over it.
Plus it makes me crabby 😂

Summer is NOT my favorite season. I start to fantasize about the first September cool front right about now on the calendar lol.

When I was a kid, I loved summer. When I got older, I loved winter. Now, I don't like either extreme. Give me fall, or at least 35* and snow.
And I've said something similar for years--I can always put on more clothes to stay warm. I can only get so naked...legally.

Once again the ability of these storms to skirt MBY is facinating and frustrating all at once...they come within miles and just fall apart

12z gfs and to some extent the 12z ggem are now advertising a “stall and crawl” tropical storm/hurricane by early next week.
Not saying we see Hurricane Harvey level rain totals, but an intriguing setup.

Not saying we see Hurricane Harvey level rain totals, but an intriguing setup. GFS has had that scenario quite a few runs now. Something to watch...also would suggest that it will completely lock up the atmosphere which should keep us socked into the sauna.

Here comes the third(or possibly fourth) outflow boundary of the day...I'm sure it'll stir up nothing but wind *shrug*
They definitely took the edge off the heat and humidity though...no complaints there!

I feel this heat is over. No way tomorrow gets that hot in my opinion as I would think that a storm complex will hit us in the morning from the storms forming in Nebraska shoving the front through.
This heat wave definately was squashed quickly.
Although it is still a hi heat index at my house with a temp of 93 and dp of 75.
Also has a moderate shower 30 min ago

Fairly similar pattern as last summer where the NW flow always seemed to sneak in and break down the ridge. It wasn't as amplified and cool as I had expected, but overall this summer has been pretty bearable with just spurts of heat and humidity.

Yes agreed. It's been a very tolerable summer. Our hottest day of the year was June 24th at 103 and was a record. That may stand the rest of the season as the hottest day of this year.

Looking at the parameters for tonight, I'm seeing more and more signals that a storm complex developing in KS and NE is going to continue east/southeast right down I-70 into STL late tonight into Thursday morning. The ONLY fly in the ointment right now that I can see is the rather warm mid-level temps again.
1) MCS maintenance parameter points straight across Missouri 2) Upwind propagation vectors carry the complex east-southeast 3) Precipitable water is pooling along the west-east outflow boundary from this morning 4) 850mb LL jet veers right down I-70 late tonight with 25-30kts 850 flow pointing right at the Mississippi River.
