Looks like it will make a fantastic lake. The damn is either going to be overtopped or washed out sending a wall of water down the river valley. Dangerous situation. Can you imagine what was uncovered in the downstream of that river. With nobody to see it, because you have a lake that is about to give upstream.

I saw today that a more in-depth analysis suggests that the flood probably won't be that bad at least further down on Fraser River. But, yeah, I wonder what kind of artifacts are now visible on the Chilcotin River downstream of the landslide.

Where/is there a cumulative rainfall map for the past 30 days for our region? Can’t seem to find one that goes back that far. I am sure there is one out there, and probably easier to find then I am making it ha.

I would not rule out breaking 100 tomorrow, and especially Tuesday if the front is slow enough with compression heating

I would not rule out breaking 100 tomorrow, and especially Tuesday if the front is slow enough with compression heating 850s didn't seem to support that being around 18-20*C...thinking more like mid-90s but humid. It got hot and sticky quick today and not much wind at times.

My bad NWS discussion Said 850s 20 to 23c which usually would push the century mark for us.

Concerned about one of my favorite cities and areas in the world, Charleston SC. Could be devastating flooding especially if Debby parks itself off shore. Folly beach is also nearing completion on a nearly year Long Beach restoration. We were there in June and it was about half complete.

If this isn't the definition of a dog day. Hot, but not unremarkable. Humid. No breeze.

My bad NWS discussion Said 850s 20 to 23c which usually would push the century mark for us. If that's the case then maybe 100...Euro showed 850 temps a few degrees cooler Either way, we're baking for a few days with heat indices 100+

Black bear in town. Columbia il. Crazy There have been several bear reports in the STL area this summer. I just looked it up and it is not uncommon for bears to swim across the Mississippi River. Like STGOutdoors said it could be the same one. I had never seen a bear before until a couple of weeks ago when we saw one in Yosemite.

Folly beach is also nearing completion on a nearly year Long Beach restoration. We were there in June and it was about half complete. Our niece is in North Charleston, and my brother is in Bluffton. Both of their forecasts are for 20+ inches.
I think she moved some items to the 2nd floor.

Is it just me, or has the frequency of daytime heating thunderstorms greatly reduced over the years? It almost seems rare anymore to see the radar light up with popcorn storms.

NWS is saying 99 F with the possibility of 100 F tomorrow. Man, I don't know. 850 mb temps and the southwest winds are there, but only early on. As has been the case a couple of other times this year it will be a thread the needle situation on whether we hit the century mark. The NBM is saying 96 F. I'm prepared to be wrong, but you guys know me...I'm very hesitant to bet against the NBM.

Wondering if mid-level temps have trended warmer over the years and increased the number of days where CINH limits development...sure seems that way

Was just thinking about that on Saturday. When I was a kid they seemed like an almost every day occurrence. Seems like it either rained or you could see "heat" lightning all the time. Now it's so infrequent people probably forgot about heat lightning

Crazy that a front as strong as this one today can sneak through without any rain... but that sure looks to be the case.
And talk about a nice break! That is some fine air heading south.

So far, so good from the relatives in SC, other than spending some time in the hall closet last night. Radar storm total shows around 9” so far.

I'm ready for the cool air. I got overheated on the job site yesterday and took a personal day today, and am staying inside. At 51, I can't take extremes as well as I used to.

This is a strong front for early August...rapid airmass change during peak heating with a noticeable cooldown.

Tell it to get down here! Compressional heating right now, I’m showing 101. That’s on my truck thermometer and home thermometer.
