The heat yesterday surprised me as well. Felt like an early August day rather than late September.
I've missed on the rain so far this weekend IMBY. Hopefully that changes.

Still looks like a couple good waves of rainfall the next couple days...tomorrow morning and another Monday/Mon PM as the trof finally ejects out. Between the two waves, an inch or two is possible in spots for sure. Hopefully we get good overlap between rounds area wide and get a good deep soaker.
The trof split and fujiwara interaction that the AIFS has with the Gulf hurricane later next week is a thing of beauty and would be a major relief from the drought conditions currently. That's a big time watcher.

I threw some top soil and seed down around my foundation. I think the waves of wet alternating with dry has done a number on my foundation, and I've been known to water my foundation during periods of extreme drought, but haven't kept up with it this year. Does this look like a deluge (I havent checked pwats), or a more gentle rainfall?

took a look at the CFS - looks interesting mid October - we get into a northwest flow, and plenty of cold air - just a little too soon season wise for snow, but in the past, I've often used the October pattern as a "first look" at the winter months.

That's a big time watcher. Lastest GFS is showing that now as well. The gulf tropical system is going to pull up a ton of deep tropical moisture. If the trough gets cut off overhead like it’s showing that would be a huge rain maker for the area.

Does this look like a deluge (I havent checked pwats), or a more gentle rainfall? Good idea. During a period of extreme dry (I think it was in 2012) the ground contracted so much it pulled the water supply line right out of the foundation of our house. It broke the pipe off at the foundation wall and we hazd a geyser in the basement. Had to have the fire department come and shut the water off at the street. And then have a plumbing company dig out the supply line and repair it.

Another textbook miss IMBY...those storms skirted a few miles to the north then blew up just off to the east. Seen it so many times the past two summers!

A temp overachiever today! Bonus 90*+ (91*-93*)! Dew point 69-72*. Heat index: 97-100*! Brutal in the sun with the humidity! So nice when the stratus settled in later. Fall equinox tomorrow! Equal day equal night! Steepest slope decrease of daylight right now between the sunrise and sunset!
So excited for an area wide soaking tomorrow into Monday and additional rain on Tues across MO! Plus cooler fall temps! Everyone should be in the 1-2" range with 2-3.5" amounts possible even though the atmosphere isn't socialistic! It's been too long since we have seen beneficial rain. If you believe in cycle length patterns then when this cycles back in late Nov/early Dec we could be talking about snow with this system! ❄️😊

00z gfs back with a CAT 4 hitting Tampa.
00z Icon had a CAT 4, but closer to the panhandle.
00z ggem is like a CAT 1 hitting panhandle.
18 AI euro is a strong CAT 2 north of Tampa.
Looks like Florida is the target.

Then you have the 00z Euro showing a 990mb tropical storm making landfall in the Florida panhandle
It then wraps the circulation and moisture back over the area and does some cool fujiwara stuff resulting in a lot of rain over the area
Until the models have a better handle on the trough over the US ahead of that tropical system, its going to be hard to pin down a path/strength

After being up for an hour and a half looking at radar and then looking at storm total accumulation around the area I was quite happy to find .5625" (9/16") of liquid in my rain gauge. I'm riding a fine line between 'Haves' and 'Have Nots'. The mole run riddled yard should be able to soak up a lot more water than it would have if they weren't there. Still amazes me how hard the ground is and how hard it is to put a shovel into the ground yet the moles don't seem to have much of a problem with it.

It's come slow and steady so it has had a chance to soak in.

Don't know how much rain we got (have to wait for my neighbor twocat to check in with that) but our detention pond had a couple of feet of water in it when I opened the blinds this morning, too. Quite a change from last Wednesday when the lawn guys mowed it and caused a dust storm.

Did I sleep through a good storm this morning? A neighbor had a good sized and healthy looking Maple tree split in half. I haven't heard any reports of wind gusts...may be more related to crown weight from moisture after a prolonged dry period. This drought has stressed trees and shrubs badly.
