And one with no zoom. Sometimes it’s nice living where nobody else does.

Great pics. I found Arcturus but it was pretty far to the right from where I was looking off of Venus, I have several large oak trees so I figure I didn't get high enough on the property to look down over those trees.

The comet was also very nice looking through my telescope. Very easy to see. Could see it to the naked eye as a white streak tonight I got the telescope out tonight before I realized I didn’t have an eyepiece in it…and couldn’t find them. Luckily the phone has a 15x zoom.

Looks like we could see a band of showers Tuesday AM with the secondary cold front...that's a pretty sharp trof with a strong vort lobe dropping in and some mid-level moisture in tow. Thermo profiles are awfully close to supporting frozen precip too...but warm surface temps would probably favor rain if those showers develop. Just something to watch. The EC is still bullish with that trof ejection late next week while the GEM/GFS cut it off and delay the timing. That continues to look like a system that could bring a severe storm threat to the Central US. Not widespread, but BRTN nails it again...

Dry air really limited the coverage but radar looked like some showers may have made it to the ground to the W/SW of the Metro. Last I checked, models had slowed the ejection of that trof with stronger ridging across the E US which would probably limit the rain and severe storm chances around here as it tracks further N.

Rest of October continues to look Dry. Almost want it to stay that way, just to go for the record driest or tie it if there's already been an October with no more then a trace of rainfall.

And there it is.... I'm pretty sure this is the first appearance of any snow in any of the "big" (GFS/EURO) ensemble products this season! Let the fantasy snowfall season begin

Anyone comet watching tonight? Went around to the back of the old Westfield Plaza Belleville Kmart where there's a little side street into some fields. Clouds wanted to block the view of the comet, but finally they cleared and after looking around I could faintly see it with my eye and a bit better in Binoculars. Unfortunately my phone's camera sucks for astrophotography (Samsung A42 5G) and it wouldn't pick it up. Then drove to southeast of Freeburg and pulled into a side street/long drive way and the view was better, but nothing remarkable, could make out the tail, but no anti-tail. Binoculars could pick up the coma and tail and another comet near it that's much dimmer (Olbers). I was spoiled from Comet Hale-Bopp and a couple others in my youth and teenage years back in the 1990s and 2000s. Still it's the most impressive comet visible since Lovejoy back in 2011

Hale-Bopp I’ll never forget. It really nourished my interest in space and science in general. I remember not even knowing what it was for a couple days until we saw it on the news.

32.9 at the house was the low.
Patchy roof frost in Belleville. Down in the American bottoms along 255 fields had a good frost on.

Phoenix broke the all time United States record for the most consecutive daily record high temperatures...15. This breaks the old record of 14 at Burlington, IA set in 1936. Their streak finally ended at 21 consecutive days of a record high maximum. This brings their total number of daily high records (including both maximum and minimum) to 72 in 2024. And if you thought this has to be the most at a single site in the United States you'd be wrong. That trophy goes to San Juan which has reported 141 new record highs so far this year. I'm sure 99 is annoyed that St. Louis could only muster 9 new record highs so far this year. St. Louis does have 1 record low this year though. Jan 14th only got up to 3 F which is a record low maximum for that date.
