The eyewall likely didn't produce anywhere near 140 mph winds at the surface by all accounts I've seen, but the expanse of the lower end hurricane and high end tropical storm force winds was immense. I'm not sure I recall a larger overall windfield in recent memory.
The small, tight buzzsaws tend to produce the high end tornado-like damage (i.e. Andrew, Charley, etc.).

My mom lives in Spartanburg SC and the damage there is unbelievable….. she probably has 10 -15 trees down on her 1/2 mile street From wind or from saturated grounds?

Just got in from work and peeked at the rain gauge. Was surprised to see 2" of rain in it since overnight! (Northern St. Francois Co.) Still pouring down too. Nice afternoon/evening for a pot of coffee and some sofa time.
Hate to hear of the damage and power outages down in the southeast.

A little under a half inch here so far...rain rates have struggled up this way, but thankful for another shot of soaking rainfall.

The video from the mountains of the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida are beyond sad. It is impossible to wrap my brain around the scope and magnitude of the damage... even though it was expected.

Getting some big wind, wouldn't be surprised to see some tree damage locally given wind direction, ground conditions, and duration

Driving home from Park Hills it was pretty gusty. Just a few sprinkles on the way home. Another 1/4" added for a storm total of 2" 7 mileswestofDeSoto. Nice soaker of a rain. And I will go to bed dreamin' of how much snow this would've been had it been snow.🤪

Just texted a friend over in Greenville/Travelers Rest area of SC. No power, but no damage at their house. Many of their friends didn't fare so well--trees on houses and cars. Whole area is pretty much shut down.

Signals growing for another system in the gulf by next weekend. Both the GFS and Euro have something in the gulf next weekend. Conditions don’t look as favorable for this one as Helene but anything in the gulf is unwelcome.
