The view from my work. It's finally winding down a little. Think you guys are in one of your snowiest winters on record if I'm not mistaken. How much is actually on the ground there? Isn't a good portion of Iowa in that same boat? Concerning for the rivers when it melts.

Well yesterday mad a run to lake of the ozarks to check on the place. And its bad. Every dock in our.cove the electric is snapped and ramps are ripped from the shore due to recor low lake levels and the ice being 8 to 10 inches thick just snapping all the cable. I hope we do not see a cold snap like this in many years to come as it is just awful. Lake is frozen dam to dam. This 3 week period will go down as the harshest winter weather we can get. I hope any remaining cold this year is transient and very short lived. Take a look back at the winters of 76-77 and 77-78. They topped the last 3 weeks by a considerable amount. There were also a few winters in the 40s and in the teens that make the last 3 weeks seem like a cake walk.

Not enough plumbers in TX and I heard it might take two months to get everyone’s repairs done! It’s so sad! Governor Abbott signed an emergency order so retired plumbers and plumbers from out of state can come in and help. Will be helpful but, unfortunately, will also open the door for a lot of fraud and scammers. Which is sad.

Think about the poor intern(s) that had to comb through all the weather reports across the country looking for the meteorologists and on-air talent to say say "Wow."

Yep. Back to normal. Iowa gets snow while it rains here. Once the snow melts and the ground thaws it is going to be so gross outside. Muddy as hell. You need to live where there's permafrost.

Feels like a spring day out there with temps in the mid 20s and some sunshine Crazy how a day that would normally be a "cold day" in mid-February feels like a warm spell. If the forecast of 50s verifies next week people will want to open the pools. This weekend car washes will be a lucrative business.

NWS employee reports M3.9 in O'Fallon, MO little while ago. Around the same time I measured 3.1" in St. Peters. That first band last evening left this area really short. Quarter to half inch at most.

I want to know if all the people who gave up on this winter and threw in the !Drying Cloth! a month ago have started preparing their dinner of crow. Hard to blame anyone for giving up on this winter in late Jan. The fat lady was just warming up.

How unique is this system? This is from this morning's AFD
I`m in new territory estimating the SLRs as never in my 30+ years forecasting have I dealt with a major storm with this cold of an airmass. I am using 20:1 or greater and they increase with time.

Ch 2+2 did a couple of live shots from I-64 fifteen minutes apart. First was by Forest Park and highway was partially covered. Second was from Chesterfield Valley and the road was clear.

It’s going to be a late night at Ch2, they didn’t start the race until 8:30. Which is fine , for news/weather, I only watch Chris anymore, and others sources for news online. I wanted to see the new set. I have my recording set to go until midnight.

I don’t get the warning stuff. It’s 0 degrees out and accumulating snow is being called for. Do you really need somebody to tell you to be careful with that? Seems silly Problem is that most of society is completely oblivious to weather and the dangers of it. Unfortunately we live in a world where most people can’t or won’t make their own decisions and rely on others to warn them or tell them. But will a WSW make them pay attention? Will they prepare differently if they are that oblivious? I doubt it.

I saw a question about 2014 and how cold it was on the last thread. I remember during the snow the temperature dropped to 19* in Brighton and stayed there until it stopped snowing and started to plummet. By Monday AM it was -11* up here with fresh snowcover and WCI of -30*. So it was a colder event overall, but this event will be colder *during* the snowfall with temps in the single digits. I have never seen this in my lifetime...and I was born in '86. It can't be overstated how rare of an event this is, not to mention that it's tied to a nearly 2 week stretch of sub-freezing temps and almost daily snowfall. Incredible shot of hardcore winter weather for this region! I can recall another storm in the 80s where we got 6 or 8“ of snow with the temps in the low 20s. Then almost immediately after the snow stopped the skies cleared and the temp dropped into the low single digits and we had below zero that night. But that's different than this as well.

I'm older than you by more than a decade, Chris. Like you, I don't remember a significant snow event with it being this cold. Most I recall is a dusting to a half inch. The coldest I recall for a significant snow event was in the low teens.

Also FYI Schnucks is busy... I can't 'imagine' why? Have to go in later @ 4-10PM so things will be fun especially first half. Dierbergs at 79 Crossing is also busy. Wife just stood in line for 15 minutes to do the weekly grocery shopping. Not even the milk - bread - eggs thing
