Trees are loading up still as is the grass. But roads are wet, sidewalks are wet...treated and untreated from what I can tell. My deck was still iced over. My porch and front patio are glazed but sidewalks and driveway wet. A lot of weight on the trees though and would think the power lines are doing the same. My thermometer reads 32.

What's the expectation through this evening? When should we expect temps to rise above freezing? Where are you located? O'Fallon, MO

31 in O'Fallon. The clouds out west look like a summer thunderstorm.

Not a jerk thing to say so no offense taken. The early dismissal has me alarmed for the safety of our parish, the families and children who attend school there. There's been a lot of confusion with this storm but with ice being a potential threat, I agree, safety comes before everything else especially if there is doubt on behalf of the person responsible for hundreds of children/families.
But as it stands, it seems he is unclear based on his reply to my reply of my concern for an early dismissal at 11am. ------------------------------
Brennan,
If you could forward me some sources to track this storm I would appreciate it.
Thank you for your help.
In Christ, Dan
Can’t he just follow suit with the public schools around him? Or be the hero and give the kids the day off. If it’s a bust, sobeit. If it’s not, he’s a hero. Either way, kids will be happy. Parents won’t but as a parent, I’d deal with it. I’m waiting on Lindbergh to call. Now that Fort Zumwalt and Francil Howell have called off, I'm hoping he revises soon. Seems the call is up to him but based on his replies, seems hes not unwilling to revise and call it. I think he's trying to scramble for answers and I'm sure it's a battle of the parents demanding school in session vs the opposition. It interrupts our schedules as parents but the concern for safety is 1st and foremost.

Chris, I have the principal of Immaculate Conception of Dardenne, Dan Mullenschlader asking me to provide him with the latest on the weather given his proposal on an early 11am dismissal. I'm trying to advise him against this given the potential for that time to be hazardous for travel to and from the school. He has asked me to inform him of what to expect from rush hour thru late morning/early afternoon so he can revise if necessary. I know it's a tough call for any school administrator/principal but the late morning dismissal just doesn't sit well with me. Your thoughts?
Not wanting to be a jerk, but ICD's principal needs to take some ownership on this. Chris shouldn't have to directly comment on specific calls like this in public beyond what is in his on-air and online forecasts. There is a significant threat of an ice event tomorrow. That's clear from all available forecast sources. If schools do a half-day tomorrow, they may be taking a risk on safety getting home. No one will know for sure until tomorrow. Not a jerk thing to say so no offense taken. The early dismissal has me alarmed for the safety of our parish, the families and children who attend school there. WAA Events almost always start earlier than expected... Sometimes by as much as 6 hours from even the most recent model run... Which is why I am still calling for the 1st flakes and pings of sleet to occur during the morning rush hour... Maybe late in the rush hour but during the rush all the same. Chris,

I’m way behind on what the latest is so bare with me. My wife works all weekend so it’s the only reason I ask...
Does this appear to be an all freezing rain event, no snow? I saw mention of onset Friday afternoon.. How long do we expect for this to reek havoc on the roads? Through the day Saturday?
Apologies as I’m usually up to speed with the latest forecast and trends. If someone can give a short and sweet on the p-type (does it change to rain at some point, snow, etc?), does Saturday look problematic? Thanks fellas.

Checking MoDOT cameras and it is flat out pouring hamsters in Lake St. Louis and O'Fallon. Listening to the scanner and there are a ton of slide offs. Cops can't keep up I don’t recall many times I’ve seen snow flakes this big at this rate. It is pouring guinea pigs in O’Fallon right now.

Moderate sleet in O’Fallon/Dardenne. Occasional hamster mixing in. Ground getting very slick. My car almost spun out turning out of the Schnucks on the outer road. Sleet is definitely getting the roads cold and slick very quickly.

Maybe. I’ll have to go back to see if I measured anything with that storm. I think I had about half of the yard scoured down to grass. Friv is right on the nose. I measured 13” that day when living in Maryland Heights. I believe it’s close to the day I first joined this forum.

I’ll put in my official of 6” in O’Fallon, MO/Dardenne.
After rounds of brush off and re-measure, figure it’s best to just to with current depth start to finish, factoring in a little compaction last night.

I paid an up front small fee for my app on my phone. It’s called MyRadarPro. It’s great for the one time $5.99 or whatever it costs. Only downfall I can’t rap into it on my PC

Strange to see these bands actually intensifying as they approach STL. Seems a$$ backwards from the norm which is cool to witness.

Moderate band develop right over Wentzville area. Good size flakes That backside band is providing some bonus snow to the western parts of the viewing area. That skinny little band has been sitting right over St.Charles county and western portions of STL County (Chesterfield). The morning and evening bands converged right over us.
We didn't cash in on the that fgen band that strolled SE of us so I'll take the bonus

I am sitting at 2" for today...3.7 on the ground and hoping for another 1-2 this evening. For all the different pieces and complexities of this storm... Im pretty happy with what I will have on the ground. Too bad all but the piles will be gone by Christmas... but it sure is festive to look at right now! Is that total what you measured just now after some of that IP/ZL yesterday evening? That graupel compacted mine a good qtr inch. Might have deflated your total currently just a smidge.

However if somehow that area from Lebanon to Jeff City fills in, possibly more. Doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen though.

That 2nd band is starting to fill in nicely out to the west, almost converging with the backside of the first. Promising sign.
