Looks like I’ll be in town this year to witness what will hopefully be our first flakes flying. I usually miss these type deals due to my traveling job.

supergfs continues early am trends. Yea but old Gfs and Canadian say nope. I gotta say that I’m pretty impressed with the superGFS, for obvious reasons. It’s been somewhat consistent, and time will tell if it’s been consistently wrong.

It’s all in good fun guys.
It is funny though - the first sight of digital snowfall awakens folks from their slumber. Here’s to a fun season of talking one another off the ledge.

It's early yet, people! We have many months of winter to enjoy! That’s what we said all last winter, until there was no winter left!

<-- This picture is from that big snow in early Jan 2014. That was so much fun to watch pile up.

Yeah ElKay23, I mentioned the other day that one I found (on Tesson near Mercy South) was all black on the back, which was a significant difference from the ones I saw in Pana, IL which were mostly brown, save 3 sections.

watch the secondary development midweek. See if it trends north in coming days. Could be a good clue as to what happens this winter. So the question is, will we be saying, "two weeks" this year? We’ve two-weeked ourselves through the last couple of winters. I don’t care to do another!

So. What if you find a wholly worm that is completely black on the back, and brown on the belly???

Now I’m reading through the Jan 2, 2014 blog. Man that storm was fun! We had to dig out a section of the yard for our Golden Retriever to use as the snow was too high for him to navigate through.
If I recall correctly, that storm wasn’t all snow for me - I think I had moments of graupel during the onset, but once it started, it didn’t stop. The snow | wind was beautiful to watch pile up.
Here’s to hoping Chris’ wooly worm spotting lends itself to fun storms to watch!

I don't think my heart could survive another Groundhog day disaster. I hear ya. But that sure was fun! We need something like that around here.

I’m reading through that entire blog from the Groundhog Day storm in 2011. What’s interesting is that I was pretty sick during that storm and my mind clearly wasn’t on the storm, so I’ve forgotten all about the ups and downs. It’s fun to read through it.
The side effect of reading it is that now I’m pumped for Winter hoping we get a couple storms to obsessively post about!

At a little golf resort in Pana, IL. Besides some serious wind, I saw about 8 wolly caterpillars. All had their first 2 sections black with the rest brown. Folklore will tell you that means winter comes on strong then retreats. We shall see.

I'm no damage expert, but that looks like CAT 5 in Mexico Beach. You can clearly see those structures built to sustain CAT 4/5 winds and those that weren't. So sad.

It's going to take months to clean up. Wind + Water = Catastrophic damage. I pray that these people get the help they need to rebuild their lives.

yeah, i'm seeing all of that now. I had surgery on my foot last Friday so I've been working from home, and had the TV turned on to the likes of CNN/FOX News/TWC before I had to leave for an appt. They were showing live shots of clocking wind speeds, but that was more the sensationalism. It wasn't until just over the last hour that I'm seeing what Michael brought with him.
It's devastating; and 1 loss of life thus far.

Again, I wasn't WANTING to see death and destruction, but rather curious as to what kind of damage the monster did.
I heard one report that people didn't expect it to be that bad. God I wish they had access to a site like this where you all predicted the explosive strengthening.

Not that I'm excited about death and destruction, and maybe it's because things are slow to move to network/cable news/websites, but I'm not seeing the kind of damage I'd expect to see from a high-end Cat4 storm? And maybe that's because improvements have been made in building code, etc. Thoughts? It took many hours after Katrina for people to see how bad it was. Lets wait until tomorrow...at the very least. I guess in today's 24 hour news cycle, I thought it would've been sooner. And I'm thankful that most media had positioned themselves outside of the path of major destruction. Following the links above .. it's bad.

Are they just going to break into someone's home for safety? That's what it sounded like. Looks like surge is about to swamp their vehicle now. you still watching? What in the wide world of sports is going on now?

Correction: Brett Adair is driving through it in Port. St. Joe. My God. Idiots. They're having to abandon their car while the surge comes in. Are they just going to break into someone's home for safety?
