(I guess?) It's worth noting that the Euro is pulling the Sun/Mon system up to the point where we are in play for some light snow. GEM does it too and the GFS and Icon had a notable shift north.

This is among the saddest days in American history. Will be remembered forever. The day our democracy was threatened by complete fools.

Time to enforce Executive Order 13933 signed June 26 2020 which directs the federal government to pursue to the fullest extent prosecution under existing statutes with imprisonment up to 10 years for individuals or entities that attack or damage national monuments or federal property.

Did a little research to my inaccurate notes and it looks like here in Marissa we have had 1 snow in the last 4 years of over 3 inches and that one we had 7 inches but it turned to rain and half was gone the next day...... this is getting ridiculous

I think this is only for half the country, not those the president “loves”

There's a few members of the 18z GEFS that bring the system Sunday/Monday far enough north to drop accumulating snow in the CWA. I sure could use a system to track right now

It looks like the NAM shows some light flurries or snow showers Friday and Saturday night, doesn’t really print out any qpf. Not much else to track, it’s sad to see that storm suppressed by a very weak HP.

Not much else to track, it’s sad to see that storm suppressed by a very weak HP. I’ve noticed some of the short range models also showing snow showers around here Friday/Saturday. Soundings from that time show steep lapse rates in the lowest couple thousand feet with saturation but dry air is very prominent in the mid levels. The DGZ also remains unsaturated so maybe we could see some more “snizzle” or grauple showers

After the conversation about the “irregularities“ of the biggest snow total I was wondering about the really old temperature records.
Specifically I was thinking about the -22 record low for the city. How accurate was that reading? Obviously it wasn't a digital thermometer so what about it's calibration? The city wouldn't have been the heat island it is now so where was that measurement taken? How rural of a location?
I guess I'm wondering if, by looking at records from the late 19th century, are we comparing apples and oranges when we put them side-by-side with 21th century readings?

well in 1985, Lambert got down to -18, which is pretty remarkable. I'd call the -22 pretty legit. Just need snow cover and arctic air. So, it'll probably never happen again.

I don't have the figures or the time to come up with them, but I think it's notable that this winter has been cooler as a baseline than it has in quite some time. We've had lots of days of highs in the 30's and 40's it seems, and not nearly as many in the 50's and 60's that we had become accustomed to. The blowtorch has been in hibernation. Let's hope the big cold pattern comes to fruition in the medium and long term. That's the kind of pattern that can really lock in - oriented from the NW in Central Canada, down through the Plains and Midwest and Northeast.

Icon is suddenly spinning up a nice vort to our SW for the early week system. But it just produces some light snow after dumping the majority of it in TX. Maybe something there though.

Just looking at 06z GFS snowfall maps and it shows a bullseye of 4-5" of snow a little north of West Plains, MO. Is the 10/1 snow algorithim that bad or is that a swing and a miss from the GFS 6-12 hours into a run??? That would be a pretty substantial north jump.

Sounds like every other "storm" this year, lol Yea that's my concern too as old habits are hard to break in terms of trends/patterns, but I wouldn't think our moisture would be tapped out this go-round. GEM and Euro have a solid precip shield, just need to pull it a bit north.
