GEM looks downright torchy next week with a ~600dm ridge building over us...probably way overdone, but it does look to get pretty toasty this weekend into early week.

as long as its very short lived, lol Unfortunately, it may be rather prolonged. But globals are having a tough time resolving the large scale pattern beyond this week...the EURO is drastically different looking than the others.

From what I've looked at over the past 2 months, models haven't had a good hold on things outside of D5+

Yeah, they've been struggling lately. La Nina throwing them curveballs, I guess...

Just saw a bright meteor high up in the east sky- You were up late! I had a viewer send me video of it. It was very bright. Hoping we maybe captured it on one of our webcams.

This may be the most boring stretch of weather I can remember around here. The country as a whole really has been very quiet on the weather front.

Next week is looking downright steamy with highs in the 90s...hopefully the front that the EURO shows can break it down later in the week. It's going to be getting awfully dry again too.

We can hope...but the continental ridge seems pretty stubborn to go away. We might be dealing with the warmth into October unless the pattern really gets shaken up

Would a hurricane in the Gulf do that?

Would a hurricane in the Gulf do that? It would help to stir things up...but nothing seems to want to develop. Some models hint at that potential next week, but they've been consistently showing tropical development for weeks now and it hasn't really panned out yet.

GFS showing 105+ in SD and MN next week...jeez GFS back to pretending it's like Saudi Arabia/Middle East again... To be far it's been showing Death Valley there almost all Summer (Northern Africa/Middle East/Arabia Region), granted it's a desert and they're 'used' to it. Just wondering if it will think We're Greenland or Quebec when Winter comes with -20s to -40s *F doubt it, but that would be some serious bias right there.

Now, I’m pretty stout with geography, but I’m questioning some things I thought I knew.
Anyway, not looking forward to summer 3.0 kicking in.

Looks like the 00z GEM hangs onto the ridge now with the EC aggressive with the FROPA mid-week...it's kind of on it's own now with that. One thing that's consistent in the models is the potential for a tropical wave approaching Cuba/Bahamas that may have a chance to get into the Gulf underneath the ridge. Models are really struggling to figure out the large scale pattern overall though.

One thing ive noriced with these patterns is that it always takes longer than models estimate to get the ridge to break down this time of year and especially if theres gulf activity going on. Sit back and enjoy the heat for a while. The bad news is the pools are closed. Maybe we should consider keeping them open until end of september but theres no staff for that to happen.

Lots of smoke aloft via satellite from the northwest fires trapped under the Heat Dome which is now overhead. Should be some pretty sunrises and sets the next few days.

EC has some support from the UKMET with the FROPA mid-week and NW flow knocking down the ridge. Seasonal trend would support that, but the large scale pattern is going to favor a strong ridge which may be tough to displace like Beaker said.
